Delta & United 747 Routes 2017

Sun Apr 02, 2017 7:18 pm

I've tried to keep track of airliner routes for the planned end of 747 flights for the respective carriers. I know there are ones on this site who keep track of these things better than I. I know all United 747 routes are out of SFO. Delta uses DTW & HNL. Can anyone list the routes please? Trying to figure out one last flight on each.

The Delta schedule is interesting, because to serve KIX-HNL they have to do the following routing: DTW-NRT-HNL-KIX-HNL-NRT-DTW, that rotation needs three 747s. Impressive!

So I am thinking about trying to fly aboard at least one 747 before retirement. I live in the Detroit area so DTW-ICN/NRT/PVG and return are all options. But, for price reasons, does anyone know if there are upcoming one-off domestic 747 routes that are known in advance and can be booked?

On September 5th, DL1352 is a one-off 747 flight from LAX-DTW, but it's a redeye. It is still bookable. Main Cabin is being sold at $316.20 and Delta Comfort is being sold at $360.20.

Thanks, I just tried that on delta.com though and for that date LAX-DTW there is no DL1352 showing up and all the equipment on the flights that are there are either 737 or 757. So is it not bookable anymore? Or do I need to use some other site, though it seems delta.com should be the authority.

It shows up for me on Delta's website. It leaves at 11:10 pm. Although, it does list every seat as unavailable on the seat map.

I just checked on the app and it is still a 747 and still bookable. 1352 leaves at 11:10pm arriving 6:26am. Currently $316 for economy.

OK so now it shows up, it shows up every few times I search. However, DL1352 now shows a 757 as the equipment...

Apparently either I suck at using a basic website or something is wrong.

Oct 29 2017: UA892 ICN 1705 SFO 1135
Dec 17 2017: DL158 ICN 1115 DTW 1014

Coincentally both will be on their ICN routes....

Delta app and delta.com both showing DL 1352 on 9/5 as a 747-400 and bookable.
They are just not allowing seats to be assigned.

The earlier 10:30PM redeye was removed and all passengers moved to 1352
Delta seems pretty committed to getting that 744 from HNL to DTW via LAX

NRT switched to 77W in June. TPE goes 77W late July. PEK goes 77W around Sep 5. FRA switches Oct 6th to 77W. One of the LHR flights goes to 772 late July, but not sure if it is the 787 flight, or the 744 one.

I just booked that flight!

I'm flying on UA from DEN to ORD that afternoon, then taking that special 747-400 flight (2704) ORD-SFO, then another UA flight back to DEN that night.

Don't worry this isn't the end of the line just yet this aircraft is coming to ORD as a military charter UA originally was going to ferry position this aircraft back to SFO empty but decided to open it up for sale so that enthusiast and employees could enjoy one last ride. Although international service on the 744's will end at the end of October looking at how quickly people booked revenue tickets on this flight when UA does finally announce the final domestic flights for the 744 I think those tickets will be hard to come by. So it seems like customers and employees are booking tickets quickly. In fact the last time I checked there were over 100 employees on the standby list all trying to get one last ride on the Queen of the Skies because most employees know they won't be able to get on the final flights of UA's 744's so they are taking advantage of it now.

UA has already operated their final domestic 747 flight. 2704 ORD-SFO was the final domestic 747 flight.

UA has already operated their final domestic 747 flight. 2704 ORD-SFO was the final domestic 747 flight.

The final domestic flight will take place in the 4th quarter of this year, UA will announce the final farewell flights at a later date but do to overwhelming interest from both employees and customers UA decided to open that flight up for sale. The original plan was to ferry the aircraft back to SFO but a late decision was made to open the flight up for sale.
Here is a copy and paste of the news bulletin that we out to all employees to advise them of flight 2704 this past Friday I can not provide the link because it was posted on flying together only UA employees can access the link.

"Aviation enthusiasts have a unique opportunity to book a rare Boeing 747 domestic trip on Friday night from ORD-SFO, which we decided late yesterday to open for revenue service (it was previously scheduled to ferry to SFO following a charter service). United Flight 2704 on July 28, departing ORD at 6:30 p.m. CT and arriving into SFO at 8:51 p.m. PT, is available for booking now. Employees may use their United discount to book revenue tickets or attempt to pass travel should any seats remain available.

As previously announced, we’ll operate our last 747 flight in the fourth quarter this year. Watch for many other opportunities for employees to say farewell to this iconic aircraft in the coming weeks, and don’t forget to share your memories of the 747"

The final domestic flight has not taken place yet.

Yes. Now branded Polaris First. Seats 1A and 1K give the closest thing to a forward view in mainstream commercial aviation.

BTW, SFO-TPE shifts over from a 744 to a 773 today. I'm booked on the new birds' return to SFO Thursday.

Ok, If I read the qoute you provided correctly it says that "As previously announced, we’ll operate our last 747 flight in the fourth quarter this year." if you are going off of this information than that is correct the final 747 flight will be in the 4th quarter this year but it does not say it will be a domestic flight.
AFAIK NRT-SFO will be the final UA 747 flight. And UA 2704 was the final domestic flight, all though you never know UA may surprise us.

NRT-SFO ended in June.

Last flight will be ICN-SFO. There will be a tour of the 747 around the hubs before it goes to the bone yard. This was NOT the final domestic 747 flight.

Yes ICN not NRT. And I hope your right about more domestic flights, but why would United them selves say this was the final domestic flight..

This whole last flight thing was really weird. It seems like it was a PR stunt that worked for the most part. However only giving 3 days notice for the last flight is strange. Our internal communications say there will be a grand send off for the 747. What does that mean? We don't know yet. However I suspect that in a month or so they will come out and say something along the lines off "due to the tremendous demand we saw on the "last flight" we will be selling seats on a farewell tour". But that is just my guess.

When is the SF fleet week? The final 747 flight is currently scheduled he 29th on the way back to SFO. I have a seat confirmed on it currently. Would be amazing if the final revenue flight flew low over the Golden Gate!

I totally agree, I think it was strange. And I believe they will have a grand send off as well. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yes. Now branded Polaris First. Seats 1A and 1K give the closest thing to a forward view in mainstream commercial aviation.

BTW, SFO-TPE shifts over from a 744 to a 773 today. I'm booked on the new birds' return to SFO Thursday.

Uh, No. The 744s do not have Polaris Seats, never will. They do have the "old" IPTE F Class seats, very comfortable but not Polaris.

United never said this was the final domestic flight, if you look at what was posted on flying together United stated it was a rare opportunity for aviation enthusiast but at the end of the bulletin that was put out to employees United clearly states that employees should watch out for many other opportunities to say farewell to this iconic aircraft in the coming weeks. In all of the communication that I've received and all of the rumors I've heard here at WHQ it has never been UA's position that flight UA2704 was or would be the last domestic 744 flight.
In my opinion this was simply a test UA wanted to see people would respond to this opportunity and I don't think it was a disappointment . Both first and business class was sold out in a matter of hours and there were 85 revenue passenger in coach in addition to 200 non revenue passengers. Over 290 non revenue passengers listed for the flight from all over the system from what I heard many more would have listed and attempted to go on this flight had UA given more advance notice. So I think UA wanted to see how many people would be interested in catching one last ride on a 744 so they can properly plan the final farewell.

DTW to ATL, most likely not. The 747's are PMNW and Detroit is home for them. If anything like we are seeing they will come in via LAX , as LAX has the equipment to handle along with parts from other carriers. As the 747 service with Delta closes down over the next years, see more domestic routes as they bring planes into the mainland and then to Mojave.

SF Fleet Week is scheduled for October 6-8, 2017. No word if they will be flying a B744 this year or if they would be participating at all. Hopefully so, as that would be a nice send-off for the SF Bay Area. Also, super unlikely but would be cool to do a 10-minute demo with the B744 and quickly follow that with a B77W for the last 10 minutes and end their flying display with a two ship photo opt passes. ...Hey, one can dream can't they....
