What's Happening With Sobelair?

Fri Feb 15, 2002 1:50 am

In the last weeks we've had some news about VG Airlines, DAT/VEX, Thomas Cook Belgium etc.

But still not a single word about Sobelair (or did I miss something here?).

Anyone heard something about them in the last days ?

Best regards, SN-A330

Hey SN-A330:

There are 2 possibilities at the moment:

1) Management buy-out: the staff of Sobelair buys the shares of Sobelair

2) Tui-Preussag buys Sobelair (who has Jetair as a large company, and Jetair and Sobelair do already coöperate on charterflights)

In the next few days, we will know more.

Best regards,
Frederic

It surprises me that Tui-Preussag is still interested in buying Sobelair. I thought they weren't interested anymore in taking over SLR. That onlu leaves the possibility of a MBO.

Option 3 of course is that no one comes up with the money to buy it and it closes.

Yes Ceilidh, and Tui-Preussag's clients will get a rowing boat to row themselves from Ostend to Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

One way or the other, we will need a second charter airline in Belgium (and I hope it stays Sobelair!).

Hey Ceilidh,

Look: I want to make clear that I respect you like I respect everybody. But all your negative critic on Belgian aviation is seriously becoming boring and tiresome.
Why always so negative?
Look on the bright side of life!!!
Instead of saying all this (Closing of Sobelair, critics on VG-Airlines,...) you would better keep your thumbs up for all these pilots without a job!!!

Regards,
Frederic

It was on the news a few hours ago : TUI/Preussag suspended the takeover negotiations with Sobelair.

Let's hope they get back around the table soon.
