Fri Feb 15, 2002 3:02 pm

HI
I was just wondering if anyone new the best way to become an air traffic controller.
I live in Australia but information on any counrty would be cool.
Also, once u have the qualifications for ATC how long does it take to for example, be working on approaches at a busy international airport???

Thanks

Here's Air Services Australia's recruitment and information page for Air Traffic Control.
http://www.selectnet.au.com
There is an 11 month course in Melbourne followed by 4 weeks field training involved, although they don't appear to be recruiting at the moment.
I couldn't find any way to apply on this site but you could send an enquiry to them under "Feedback" asking when the next course would be likely to start. Good Luck.

Check out NATS which does the training in the UK. Selection is rigorous and similarly hard to becoming a pilot in terms of number of competitors.
