Metropolitan Airways?

Thu May 18, 2017 3:30 am

So I was googling around and found this -- http://metroairways.net. Does the plan seem feasable?
"Metropolitan Airways, Inc. is a 2017/ 2018 diverse driven (Minority owned) startup airline which plans to begin commercial air carrier operations in the fall of 2018. Our flights will consist of routing between high density markets to mid density markets within the continental U.S. operating highly efficient aircraft capable of safely and comfortably operating on shorter airfields; Metropolitan Airways currently plans to operate commercial service out of Detroit City Airport – St. Louis Mid-America Airport – Houston Hobby Intl Airport – Las Vegas McCarran Intl Airport, and intends to incorporate International flights to its route system at an undetermined future date, by offering flights to Canada, in addition to Mexico." Thought it was a joke then saw news interview

I like their photoshopped airplane. Should have photoshopped in a fake registration number, though.

Haha and their plan stated to access STL via BLV, an airport in Southeastern Illinois far from STL. Seems perfect for the business travelers they are trying to attract. The only way it could work is if they made a product so spectacular that travelers would drive to them. Or change to a discount airline.

So will these planes be all coach, all business, or are they going to somehow magically have two different cabins, totaling over 200 people per aircraft?

"At Metropolitan Airways we plan not to only provide superb commercial air transportation, but transform the surrounding communities where we fly.

Metropolitan Airways caters to airports through re-vamping the business of airports by redeveloping its’ surrounding communities from a multi-dimensional platform; which in turn, create local vendor partnerships, jobs, community revitalization projects, and invest in area youth by way of aviation education, from an economic, political, and social vantage-point."

I don't even know where to start with this!!!??? The grammar and English alone in these two paragraphs is mind warping! HA!

With the Bae-146? Very good luck, with 4 engines to maintain & sucking fuel, this is destined to the heap of "never gets started" airlines.
My one & only flight on the type was back in 1991 & the plane wasn't 6 across seating, although 34 inch pitch is as generous as coach gets on domestic commercial flights. So, hardly business class & I don't see how they could get 200 people on this aircraft with that seating density, the math is off by a sum.

Furthermore, their proposed routes has been done on GC Mapper, they propose service to KDAL where we all know there isn't the space, I call BS.

They are still considering extending the train route another mile & a half around the airbase to the airport. It would be an odd link as that train starts at STL & would end at BLV after going throughout downtown St. Louis.

This can't be real. Their route options tab has 3 hubs, one which isn't even one of the 4 mentioned on the home page. BLV isn't in any of the route maps but is mentioned on the home page. It is just to much of a cluster for me to take seriously. Plus, even if it was real they would want to fly to the downtown airport not BLV. The Facebook page is all over the place. If it is real good luck to them but I can't be too optimistic.

A quick search of the address shows it's one of those mailbox rental stores that also handles FedEx shipments. Also if you read the Yelp reviews they sell bail bonds there. I have a feeling this "airline" won't get off the ground.

Why is their address a strip mall in a rather crappy part of north-west Vegas? (I know the area - its right behind College of Southern Nevada) Some Google searches ties that address to an entity called Bulink, Inc with a Better Business Bureau page. And that company shows up as prepaid cell phone that allows you to call Bulgaria.

And on the Brussels Airlines BAe 146 they used, they didn't even bother to photoshop the Star Alliance logo unless they have plans to join an alliance.

http://metroairways.net/wp-content/uplo ... irways.pdf

Even better is the scanned image of an AA boarding pass and they managed to cover up all AA logos but leave on the flight AA 198
and how they keep saying they are serving LAS but the route maps all say VGT (North Vegas Airport)

That address is likely to come up as many different businesses. It's a mailbox rental store, usually used by people who run businesses out of their house and don't want their home address being used for official business correspondence.

It's a real enough effort to be picked up by a Detroit news source, but it's unlikely this will ever succeed.

Where do I start? They call standard RJ100 economy ''Business Class'', and its 5-abreast brother ''Business Class Elite''. Business Class Elite has an 84cm pitch, which is 34in, but regular Business Class has an 80cm pitch, which is apparently 34in. WTF?! Their Business Elite pic is Swiss' CS100 economy. They are apparently ''1st All Business Class Airline'', which has a couple of problems on its own. They are a Star Alliance member with unregistered planes (great job Star Alliance). Their logo is crap and their slogan might not even be proper English. That website looks more like a fan-made fictional airline page than a professional airline. Too bored to continue.

They got an article written-up in one of the Detroit area business publications.

mwell?? Why wouldn't it work?? Stupider thing have been tried. the BAE 146 was reliable though I'm not sure who still services that engine anymore or where you'd procure a suitable parts stash.to support that airplane. I'm retiring soon and that might be worth a look for the adventure of it. I love a good adventure

Detroit City Airport doesn't currently have a viable airline terminal. The current terminal has, except for a few offices, been abandoned and largely unmaintained since 1993 or 1994 and is nearly 70 years old.

I also can't imagine that there's anybody out there clamoring to fly DET-BLV.

I wrote up this huge business plan, used my friends as "investors" and created a start up airline that flew Florida-Michigan routes and after getting critiques it would have been a total failure if it would have came to fruition, but this airline? Sounds even dumber than my idea. At least I was realistic when I wanted to do used 757's for a while until I had the money to buy E190's and 321's...

Ya'll missed the best part, I'm a person who likes to eat (#fatkidparty), so naturally I was drawn to see what they have on board, I noticed the photo of the food on the tray table looked a little familiar, couldn't place it... until I zoomed in and the napkin clearly states #iflyAlaska... well I'll be... there's another photo with a titos bottle in the background that I'm pretty sure was taken from the AA site.

Those route maps though... couldn't even bother to get a generic map and edit it in MS Paint with full names rather than just airport codes, LAZY,
I just wanna know when I can will be able to buy my ticket from JAN to SAC with two stops in no name airports, I'm just giddy at the thought of commercial service flying back into SAC, I'm sure the local government will be totally fine with them flying into SAC instead of SMF since they just paid $2 Billion for that new monster terminal... yeah...

One critique I will give is, don't put up your website until its flawless and your ducks are in a row. It gives off the unprofessional vibe everyone is echoing. Never understood the rush to get an incomplete and flawed website up, just to have it up. You only get one chance a ta first impression.

In my opinion, unless you have major funding (i.e. jetBlue startup funding), Part 380 is the way to go. No FAA approval, lower startup costs and you only have to file with the DOT

Reading the story in the paper as well as on the web site, they seem to want to be a combination charity/redevelopment/public assistance program disguised as an airline. "...give back to the city, hire local, redevelop the airport, the neighborhoods" etc, They seem to have lots of specific ideas concerning all these ancillary benefits they want to bestow...not too much concerning the actual airline operation itself. It all sounds very noble, but I really can't imagine this going anyplace without some serious financial backing...

I was actually thinking it was a high school or college project that had gotten lose, until the mailbox came up, nobody would go to the expense (even though it's cheap) to rent a mailbox for a class project.
