Alaska Now 2X BOS-SEA?

Sun Feb 17, 2002 2:29 pm

When Alaska Airlines announced new Boston-Seattle service, the news was about one daily flight. But if you check OAG, you'll find TWO dailies on the run: Flight 17 is a morning departure and Flight 15 is a late afternoon one. Unless I'm wrong, I could swear that Alaska said they were only going to have one nonstop.

I read some time ago that they were changing the original schedule and that two flights were in the system .. but I beleive they must have changed their mind - there are now 2 dailies on their website, no doubt about it! Advance bookings must be good ....

Alaska Airlines will be operating one daily SEA-BOS/BOS-SEA flight. The schedules that are currently posted reflect the original flight time that was scheduled and the new flight time, with a midday departure from SEA and an early morning departure from BOS. The old times simply haven't been yanked from the system yet.

These new times will provide better connectivity for customers traveling between the Pacific Northwest and Boston, as well as those connecting from the state of Alaska itself.

The more the better! I wish they start expanding more over the east coast!

I wonder if they will ever go to JFK, PHL, BWI and EWR in the future?

I'm pretty skeptical of the statement 'the old times simply haven't been yanked from the system yet.' If that's the case, then why don't we simply see two entries for Flight 15, rather than one listed as Flight 15 and a second one listed as Flight 17? I'm standing firmly by my belief that Alaska will debut with two daily flights each way on the BOS-SEA route. With the instantaneous ability to update schedules, it's silly to think an airline 'just hasn't gotten around to it' in making this supposed change of times. It reads like two daily flights, it looks like two daily flights, and it probably will be two daily flights. Great to see the bullish advance bookings leading to this increase...before service even starts!

I would have to suspect that it will be 2 flights a day even though I don't find any mention that they added a flight. Both flights in each direction show available seats. If the schedule just hadn't been changed to delete the old time they would have at least zeroed out availability so they don't sell seats that don't exist.

EA,

Unless my information is wrong, there are 2 flights now from Seattle to Boston. I highly doubt that someone hasn't "yanked" the flights...they've been in there since the middle of January...maybe that person took a VOLA?

Advance bookings is right. Friend of mine that works for AS said the same. Going to be interesting with the summer double daily filghts that AA will bring back. With a 120 seat 737-700 however, it doesn't take much for AS to break even on these flights.

RUMOR:

As is looking into non-stops to Miami/Orlando/JFK. The Florida service would be best bet since there is no longer any non-stop service between SEA-Orlando/Miami. SEA-JFK is over-kill right now!!!

Trust me. It's just ONE flight each way, not two. The powers-that-be simply haven't officially signed off on which one will be staying, which is why two are still displayed.

The schedule will be re-run this coming weekend to reflect just the one flight each way.

Alaskaairlines- i doubt they would go to BWI if they have DCA and IAD now. JFK-SEA has i think AA DL UA B6 on it right? would be hard to compete. i think they could add ANC-IAD though. does a 73G have range for ANC-IAD?

OAG often isnt updated much, they are always incorect with number of flights and what kind of equipment is on which route. It takes them a little longer to update their massive system, but if the flight is on AS web site than I believe it would be 2 daily flights.

Does AS have booking online? I wouldnt think AS would keep to flights open for booking if they didnt plan on opperating both.

Eric

A 73G should have plenty of room to fly SEA-IAD, SEA-BOS shouldnt be that much shorter if it is at all any shorter.
