2017 Paris Air Show - Airbus News And Orders

Mon Jun 12, 2017 3:38 pm

Hello all! The 2017 Paris Air Show is upon us! It's shaping up to be a very interesting event this time around, so let's get started!

This thread is for Airbus news and orders. Airbus will be a dominant presence at the show, no doubt orders will be confirmed. The A321neo and A350-1000 are expected to make their public debuts at the show.

Airbus Defense and Helicopters will also be present at exhibition. Should be fun!

I'm not too hopeful for any eye-catching orders, it would be great for the A330neo or A35K to get some orders, but now's not really a great time for widebodies. I'm sure a number of A32Xneos will be ordered, but anything above 200 orders would surprise me. Trust Airbus to pull something out of their arse for the show though!

Personally, I don't think Airbus has anything to prove, but a good A330neo order would probably help them out.

For A20N/A21N orders, 200 in total (virtually a given, IMO) or a single order (unlikely, IMO)? I'd be surprised if there weren't some A330neos ordered also, probably by lessors. A350's? Not a boatload, but I suspect a number that will make Airbus happy. There haven't been many orders announced 2017YTD, and it's time for a splash. Whether it's a cannonball remains to be seen.

I am hoping for a big A21N conversion by IndiGo.

Any possibility of Indigo (6E) ordering A330s or A350s to counter the SG 787s?

Very unlikely. They haven't been using the full range of A320. There are lot of destinations that indigo needs to serve before turning towards long haul operations. They will rather focus on planned ATR operations.

Will we see any orders for the A330NEo and the A380? Seems unlikely.

It will be a coup, but 6E is very cautious in expansion. They just recently placed an order for ATR, I don't think they can digest long haul operation at the same time. Currently they are offloading their IAE powered A320, never heard of them dabbling long haul. It will be suicidal if every one goes into the same pool. India aviation market has just recovered from red blood competition we have seen for past decade, IMO I don't think any one of them will risk another war.

What a pitty, as several members posted, she is a beauty.

There have been rumblings of an A380 order but that would be a massive shock TBH

Fair point. Well a fan can hope. Coupled with the rumors of 6E launching a frequent flyer program, long haul operations would have been the icing on the cake... But I digress from the topic.

Thanks though :)

Oman Air may not order anything at Paris, though they do hope to place an order in the next several months.

The 787 is also in the running.

The A350 was the dark-horse and a little overshadowed by all the "dreamliner" hype but it's truly a class-act, smooth, almost flawless launch, extremely comfortable and quiet-cabin, wider seats / cabin and more spacious overall than the 787 and orders closing in on 900! Very impressive overall without the marketing hype Boeing is famous for.

The A350 seems to have somewhat 'underpromised and overdelivered' which is a very sustainable strategy.

Cost-performance-wise, nothing will beat the A350-1000 and B787-10 on 10+ hour long haul.
They are workhoses, just like the B77W.

Comfort-wise, I beg to differ. I think that it will come down to individual airlines making the right choices on interior configurations, not the marketing mumbo-jumbo that we hear from airlines and Airbus.

May I refer you to my recent trip report: https://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1365869

To each his own, respect your report and your views. You seem to be in the minority, however, seems the A350 is getting rave reviews from most who fly on it. Perhaps it's AY's configurations.

Wouldn't it be best to keep the topic and discussions on this thread strictly order and news related?

In that way, those of us making a quick check-in over here can see only the relevant information we actually want to see and as is stated in the thread title.

I have no problem with people discussing anything they want to discuss, just not here. It clutters up the thread and relevant order information and news gets lost in a sea of irrelevant (to the topic) replies.

My apologies if I sound harsh. That is not my intention. Just a friendly suggestion.

IAG could definitely see a decent 330 order for Level/IB/EI.

IB was still planning on taking those 330s so they are slowing growth to make way for Level (though that is still IB for now so it is kind of growth in IB)

Agreed! A little discussion before hand never hurts!

In other news, Airbus will unveil a higher MTOW A380 with a new winglet design, called the A380 Plus.

Looks like the APB Scimitar Spar inspired some of the design of the winglet.

IAG places order for 110 LEAP-1A engines to power the Iberia A320neo fleet:

https://www.cfmaeroengines.com/press-ar ... a-engines/

International Airlines Group (IAG), one of the world’s largest airline groups, has selected CFM International’s LEAP-1A engine to power a total of 55 Airbus A320neo family aircraft.

CFM agreement includes spare engines and a long-term support agreement. These aircraft, which are intended for operation at British Airways and Iberia and scheduled to begin delivery in 2018, are part of an order announced by IAG between 2014 and 2015.

strange for IAG to split the order... maybe a A321LR sub-fleet with the P&W engines?

It looks like the aircraft for Vueling will be powered by PW whilst the aircraft for BA (which includes 10 A321neos) and IB will be CFM
