i am in the process, civilian. loans become your best friend, then trying to pay them off when you are not making any money instructing is so much fun! gotta love helpful parents.
honestly, i asked this question to a military guy when i used to sit in the old Continental concourse at TPA... he talked to me saying at that time (7yrs ago or so) that the air force academy, etc, wouldnt be advisable. then he gave me a tour of macdill afb. i think many are now coming from the civilian route though. its up to you tho, your preferences, etc.
i can personally attest that, from being an instructor, ive learned more about flying now than i ever did during training. so that might be helpful, i dont know, ill letcha know if someone hires me onto a regional in a year or so.
