CO 777s At EWR

Sat Aug 21, 1999 12:56 am

Two days ago, while at EWR, I noticed two gorgeous,. gleaming CO777s parked up at the North End of the airport. They were aircraft 003, and 009. Does anyone know why these aircraft were stationary(with boarding steps) away from a gate?

After a nine or twelve hour flight from Europe or Japan, any airplane needs a certain amount of maintenance or cleaning. Larger aircraft always need a little more ground "rest" before turning around for another long journey.

Depending on the time of day, they were probably sitting away from the terminal being serviced and prepared for their international flight. Here in SFO, AA, UA, etc. all do that with their planes. They are towed to a remote area (the hanger area), and then they are cleaned, etc. The catering trucks would come up closer to departure time becuase they don't want the food in the 'chilled' carts to spoil. Hope I've helped!

Yes, as stated above the aircraft were being serviced in between flights to Europe and such. I was at EWR two weeks ago and saw two of CO's 777-200s reg. N78001 and 78009 at their gates in terminal C. A MAS 777-200 reg. 9M-MRF was at terminal B along with a SIA 747-400.
