Over at the TSV(Townsville) paint shop, the Q300 repaints are chugging along :) Q300 VH-TQH back online with 'silver roo'. Q300 VH-TQY looks to have taken its place in the paint shop. So VH-SBB SBT SBV TQZ TQE TQH TQY are silver roo, which leaves 3? QF Q300 on the 'to do' list. These are my calculations. Happy to be corrected if I've miscalculated :)

I actually am liking the new livery being painted on the Qantas fleet. I particularly like the retro-style roo on the engines and on the nose.

My only gripe is that I don't like/ hate the positioning of the 'Qantaslink' text on the Q300 and the roo near the nose.
1. The 'Qantaslink' text should be moved forward next to the front door of the aircraft, like it is displayed on all other aircraft types. They could then also move the text slightly upwards, as the back emergency door/window wont be in the way.
2. The nose roo is also positioned next to front door, rather than on the nose of the plane/ under the cockpit window like on other aircraft types. Should be moved to correct position.

I understand that the Q200/Q300 are small planes, though I can't see why these changes can't be done nor why the paint shop/ Qantas painted them this way :?

B738 VH-VZR returned from Seletar on Friday, repainted in the SilverRoo livery - positioned to SIN then operated QF72 SIN-PER.

VH-VZW, which operated Friday's QF71, will replace VZR in paint in Singapore (not sure if SIN or XSP).

Also, I've not seen this mentioned in this thread as yet, but QF/Jetconnect B738 ZK-ZQA has returned to the Australian register as VH-VZF - currently in mx and should be on Australian domestic services in the coming weeks.

I checked the CASA website and seems that the plane has not been re-registered (yet). Curious where did you hear about this? (Although I wouldn't be surprised, especially after the announced widebody ops start)

Cheers

I'm not sure how often the CASA database online is updated, but likewise a search on the NZ CAA's online register search shows that ZQA is no longer registered there. I heard about this from a contact within QF, but the info has been posted in the Australian thread here as well as on at least one other forum. As I understand it, Jetconnect will no longer require 8x B738s with mainline A330s taking over a number of flights from late-March 2018, and the Australian domestic network obviously needs to cover those A330s. In the interim, I believe one of the Australian registered B738s will spend a couple of months based in NZ covering for ZQA (may well be VZF that does that).

Cheers

Thanks. Yes Jetconnect no longer need 8x 738 as you've suggested. In fact if they don't open up more routes, they probably only need 6 after March 2018 (?).

Was confirmed the Jetconnect fleet would be reduced by 1 x frame I believe in the 2015/2016 results from memory.

QF71 PER-SIN is being operated by VH-VZO which also departed PER 2 hrs earlier than what it usually does, so looks like that will going into paint while VH-VZM comes out of paint

Further complicating matters, XZB (the first B738 to be fitted with WiFi) has been spotted this week devoid of both her WiFi dome and the associated decals.

Thanks for update qf789. I read that 737 (VH-VYI) is in TSV maintenance. Is it a good bet that it's in the paint shop? I read that the facility can take 737 size a/c.

TSV facilities handle B737’s too. Retro II was painted in TSV.

If I'm not mistaken, this actually makes TWO B737s that are in the paint shop in TSV as I understand there is a VA aircraft in there at the moment, too.

Anyone know why qantas never repaints the engines on their 747 non ERs? They’re all a faded grey/white color.

The GE’s which are the ER’s and oddball OEB have white cowlings and always have while the RR birds always had grey cowlings, no idea why but it’s always been like that.

If you look at old photos of the RR birds the engines appear to be white. Do you know if its just the photo quality or were they actually white?

You are right, they used to be white. Looking through the database, the changeover seems to have begun around 1998, and lasted into the early 2000s.

You'll notice the oil or grease streaks which are quite visible on the white in the above photo; if I recall correctly these were actually the reason for the change in colour, though I'm happy to be corrected on that point.

Incidentally, Air New Zealand's were grey from the outset:

Finally, you'll see that on Qantas's 767s, the PW-powered -238ERs and GE-powered -338ERs had white nacelles, while the RR-powered -336ERs which came from BA had grey nacelles.

Given the deal to fly Q200's to Lord Howe Island until 2022, will they be repainted in the new livery?

Welcome to 2018 :) With the Q300 silver roo paints all but complete, seems its now time for the Q400s VH-QOA was done late last year, now QOB is entering the paint shop in TSV. Slowly but surely the repaints are chugging along:) Lets not forget the planning/logistics needed for this to occur within the NOV 2020 Centenary 'deadline'. You cant just 'pull offline' a bunch of aircraft to be repainted at ANY time. Some people seem to think this is possible! But as this is 'social media', no doubt the whingers will keep whinging. lol Happy 2018. Cheers!
