When they started out with just 1 747, what did they do when the a/c went in for service or checks ?

They only had one aircraft for a short time. I would guess that they didn't have any service or extensive specs/refits while they were only operating the one aircraft. The airline started in '84, and I believe by the end of '85 (or the early part of '86), they had 3 aircraft. So I wouldn't think they'd have to deal with extensive checks. Most likley, they just cancelled service on those days, or borrowed an aircraft from another airline. It is a good question though. Maybe someone out there has a better answer?

I beleive they leased a 747 that had just been through a serious check, and therefore they could fly for a while, the time needed to see whether the airline would fail or not. Evidently it didn't so I presume they either had leased more 747's or they temperarily wet leased them.

This is way off topic but I've seen a bunch of buses that say Virgin Territory here in Central Flordia. Is this to move British tourist around the Central Florida area or is this a bus company formed by Branson here in Florida? The Buses look really nice with a really big American flag around them.

It seems that in April of 1986, Gatwick-Miami was opened. A second aircraft was needed and G-VGIN "Scarlet Lady" was acquired. When one thinks about it, this airline sure has come a long way since 1 airplane and one route. Now they operate 12 747-400s and 10 A340-300s. Does anyone know how many 747 "Classics" are still operating?

Their website has info about when the acquired all their planes (inc. types) and (I think) which ones are still in service.
