What Plane Did This?

Wed Feb 20, 2002 5:12 am

Came across this pic. What plane did this? A 747? All it saids it that it was a El AL cargo plane.

Sliced right through the building. How fast was it going?
From the looks of it, it seems like the plane was flying sideways and the wings acted like knives.

It was an El Al 747 and the engine fell off during departure from AMS. People in the area of the crash developed weird illnesses which has led to speculations that the plane was carrying hazardous military cargo of some kind.

EL AL B742F!
After take off from AMS 2 engines had a fire and the plane crashed into the house while the crew was trying to turn back to the field.
As far as I know there were "only" 70 casualties what is kind of wonder to me.

The aircraft was El Al aka "Cargo Air Lines", the crash was on Oct. 4 1992 after takeoff from Schipol.

There are rumors that it was carrying some kind of chemical weapon agent back to Israel, but that is just rumors. However, the engines had actually seperated from the pylons instead of simply catching on fire.

More info including the ATC recording is available at http://www.airsafetyonline.com/indepth/cvr/atc/. All is english except the last part where another controller says something like "there is a big fire" in Dutch.
