Current Status Of Virgins 747-200s.

Wed Feb 20, 2002 10:16 am

What is the current status of Virgin Atlantic's 747-200s? I know that many of them have been leased to Air Atlanta. Which aircraft are still operating? Is there a chance that the fleet will grow again? What is being done to increase capacity as VS has reported they are doing?

The last I heard was that VPUF and VZZZ were the only remaining 747-200s in the fleet. It hasn't been ruled out completely that some of the other a/c may return.

Capacity has been increased on the JNB and HKG routes by changing a/c type from the A343 to the B744. Also, as per the recent press release, there will be an increase in frequencies to Shanghai, Lagos, Las Vegas and Antigua.

Starting from June this year the A343 will be replaced by the A346 which represents a 25% increase in capacity.

Hope this helps.

Would be nice to see the 747-200s rejoin the fleet.

The 742s operate to Delhi and occassionally New York. Until recently the Lagos flight was operated by the B742 however this has since changed to the A343.
