I don't think that they loaded in the A333 for the rest of the year. They are retiring the 763; they aren't moving it somewhere else for the season.

There are also two widebody flights to ATL. Were you mixing them up? There's HNL-SLC-ATL, and SLC-ATL.

The A333 will be doing the ATL-SLC-HNL route permanently, the 763 will actually start doing the SLC-HNL leg starting March 25th and will continue until whenever it's retired next year. I know that's one route for the 763, I wasn't sure however if the pair was gonna same routes, or have that specific ship have that particular route. Of course things could change in the future.

Sorry if it sounds complicated, just trying to figure out a bit of the plans for the two 763 aircraft. Both are doing charter runs at the moment and we already have one starting next year on the 25th of March, just not so sure if both 763s will share the same route. Forgive me if it sounds a bit retarded just trying to explain a bit.

During the winter schedule, the 763s will spend their weekends on NFL runs, some weekdays on military runs as well as the odd rescue flights. The 763s are also scheduled to do Thanksgiving runs out of ATL to SEA/SAN/SLC/MSP as well as Christmas/New Year runs. Post NFL season, you'll probably see them on weekend runs to warm destinations out of MSP/DTW.

Come the summer, they'll do the ATL-SLC-HNL run which requires 1.5 aircraft allowing for a afternoon/red eye turn from ATL-West Coast (SAN/SFO/SEA) in between Hawaii runs.

Any idea how long the refurbishment of a single 777 will take? Let’s say an airframe enters mods in mid-March, when should it exit mods and start revenue service again?

I'd say with the amount of work that has to be done I'd expect it to take close to 2 months to completely guy the interior, accomplish any checks, install new seating and get it certified by the FAA and FDA.

When is N503DN going to ferry to DTW?
Currently it is in MSP, the DTW-ICN A350 flight starts alternating with the B744 this Saturday.

So, by the Summer, we should start seeing them in service?

It was scheduled to leave the fleet on the 1st, so I'm assuming they just decided to ferry it to the desert instead of putting a new engine on it for just a few days

I'm guessing they got a 3-engine ferry permit, or don't they issue them any more. Would be a lot cheaper than having to sling another engine on it and then having to truck it back.

It was the #2 engine that went kaput, so it would have been an easier ferry than an outboard engine I assume

Snapped a pic of 667 yesterday. As of now it is along the "active" row meaning it has yet to be parted or having components put in storage or sold. I doubt the latter will happen.

I guess that's one of the reason why Virgin Atlantic hasn't been bringing their A330-300s in ATL for the past 2½ months (Besides the issue with the few grounded 787-9).

I kind of figured this was the best place to post this since its sort of widebody related.

I've noticed that Delta has been subbing the 747 in place of the 350 on a few DTW-ICN-DTW flights lately. Anyone know the reason for this? Thanks

I believe that is scheduled until they receive their next delivery.

DTW-ICN is scheduled to alternate A350/B744 every other day until 12/15. Its been scheduled to be that way since they currently have 3 A350s in service at this time. Once the 4th A350 enters revenue service it will enable DTW-ICN to become fully operated by the A350 every day and subsequently lead to the retirement of the 744 for scheduled revenue service.

I know that its alternating days but I got this info from another forum. the individual said his 350 was swapped for a 74. I guess its entirely possible that this person wasn't completely sure of the equipment they were flying on.

Whats weird is, when you check today's Delta 350 flight for DTW-ICN the flight results page shows the A350 but when you open the seat mapper, it shows the seat mapper for the 747. I guess that's just an IT glitch

leaving DTW yesterday I saw a DL 747 parked by the old Smith terminal building. Maybe they're still using it for something?

edit: never mind, I just read the several posts up thread.

From what was posted up-thread, there are still 5 active DL 747's. Two are obviously used for ICN and the other 3 must be for charter/military use.

N502DN just flew from DTW-CVG and is leaving shortly for MSP. I guess its getting in a few pilot training runs? Shouldn't this plane be getting ready for a flight over the Pacific, namely ICN?

N501DN is finishing up a NRT-DTW run and N503DN is in DTW flying to NRT in a few hours.

Tomorrow's DTW-ICN is on the 747 so if the pattern holds true and its alternating days, than today's DTW-ICN should be on the 350.

The next A350 is scheduled to be delivered on Nov. 30th to MSP, and then it will be approximately 2 weeks later when it enters revenue service, so just in time before the last B744 revenue flight from ICN>DTW on Dec. 17th!

Seems like a lack of aircraft. Right now they need all three frames, so these A350 extracurricular excursions are forcing a 747 sub.

It was. And it's scheduled to sub again on Tuesday.

And DL doesn't know this ahead of time? DL knew way back that they would only have so many 350's to go around on these two routes to start. I intentionally booked a flight to ICN leaving this Thursday for the sole intention of flying on the 350 in the 'suite' seat. I fully realize that aircraft subs happen but I'll really be pissed if its swapped with the 74 though, I wouldn't mind one last ride on the queen of the skies, as long as the return flight next Monday stays a 350.

Begs another question, why all of a sudden is N502DN doing short domestic hops, sans passengers of course, between DTW-CVG-MSP-DTW etc...?

The short domestic hops are for crew training.

I get that but DL didn't know that ahead of time? So now, they take a scheduled 350, the new flagship of the fleet, off of the ICN route and replace it with the antiquated 747? Sounds like piss poor planning to me.
