Gulf Air Fleet Plans

Fri Feb 22, 2002 2:04 am

In the past few months i have been very confused with GF's fleet plans. I read in Airliner World that they will keep their remaining B767 for a while and on the next Issue of Airliner World it said GF will standardise on the A330 for it's long haul requirements and get rid of the B763ER and the A343. And now the A343 are getting a new interior which indicates they will be part of the GF fleet for quite a while.

My Questions are as follows:

-What will happen to the GF B763ERs and the A343s when will they leave the fleet.

-What routes are the B763ERs operated on?

-How far are GF into upgrading the Cabins of their aircraft?

-A while back there was a topic about GF aquiring the L1011 http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/652416/4/ Has that idea materialised or was it just a rumour?

-Also heard on this forum that GF are considering ordering the A380's, what the latest with that?

Last Question...
-Was the A320 that crashed replaced or are GF not going to replacing it?

Anymore comments on GF's fleet plans will be greatly appreciated

Regards,
Qatar

Hi Qatar

As far as I am aware, yes GF will eventually be standardising on the A330 fleet as well as the A320 to serve the intra-gulf routes. I think most of GFs 767s are leased, so they do not have complete ownership of these aircraft. The early 90s models which were delivered to GF have all been sold to Delta, Malev, Backstreet Boys and others.

I've heard reports that 2 A340s will be leased out (2 A330s are current on lease to TAM), and the remaining 3 will be used on the Singapore, Manila and Bangkok routes. I'm sure another will be leased due to the dropping of the Australian routes.

Gulf Air are planning to eliminate First Class and concentrate on Business Class, and to introduce a new Premium Economy class. Flat bed seats were planned, but the Head of Cabin and inflight services ruled this out, due to the flying times from london to Gulf which did not permitt it. The A340s are getting a new interior jusy to keep in the trends of the growing competition, plus I'm sure they're worn out by now, since first in service.

The 767s are used on the high density routes to the Indian Sub-continent. Namely, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh as well as North African points to Casablanca, Cairo as well to the intra-Gulf routes when capacity demands it.

The L1011 thing was just some stupid rumour.

Thank you GF-A330.

When will GF get back the 2 A330's with TAM?

I remembered on my flights with GF the first class cabins always have good loads to Europe. I think GF should keep F class at least to the European destinations.
