Wow. Do people actually fly this route? How far is it driving, an hour or so?

Also too Atlatic Coast (UA Express) from IAD-BWI.
It used to be operated on a BAe J31.

It's 29 / 45 miles. Nice hop.

I flew the route for one, a couple of years ago. I was flying DCA-ROC and there were only seats on the ROC-DCA nonstop on the way back. But US Airways still let me leave from DCA, I just had to take a DeHavilland turboprop up to BWI and catch a flight to ROC from there. It was a short hop, maybe 20 minutes. I don't think we climbed above 5,000 feet.

Pan Am is starting flights to/from BWI and Hagerstown & Cumberland MD. These are pretty short flights.
The Hagerstown flights are $59 round trip.

I flew that route many years ago on a USAir Express Dash-8. IAD-BWI, I believe.

If I remember right we couldn't get a direct flight back to BWI from wherever we had gone; the only way to get back home was to fly to IAD then take the puddle jumper to BWI.

I was a teenager at the time; it was a thrill for me because I had never been on a turboprop before.

USAir doesn't fly to IAD. You must have flown into DCA and then gone to BWI from there.

You might be right, it was 15 years ago, so I don't remember.

I lived in California during the 80s, so I have no idea if US flew to Dulles during that time. All I know is that, since 1991, when I moved, they have not.

It reminds me of the IAH-HOU flights on CO Express. Although, mainline CO did fly DC9s between the two Houston airports for a while. Probably took longer to board and taxi out than to fly.

ACA used to operate the J32s from IAD-BWI which is a 30 minute flight. USAirways Express operates a Dash-8 or a D328 from DCA-BWI, about the same time.
