ERJ145 At MAN Damaged By Wind

Tue Feb 26, 2002 9:10 pm

Lot ERJ145 SP-LGE is currently parked on west apron at MAN after high winds damaged the aircraft's tail. It was reported that about 30 passengers were bussed to London to pick up an alternative service.

It was blowing a bit in these parts (40 to 50 mph winds), with that and the incessant rain on my windows keeping me up most of the night!

I think this aircraft left MAN a couple of days ago (at around 22.00) using the callsign LOT 9002 but does anyone have any confirmation?

Alex Ferguson was probably complaining nearby  Wink/being sarcastic

seriously though - I would of thought it would need winds stronger than 40 - 50 mph to damage an aircraft of that size !!! the bus journey to London would of taken longer than the flight !!

Slawko (I think) did the 1st reply and I brought it up again as SP-LGE was alleged to be operating the LOT 289 on the 3rd March...but I hadn't seen any notice of it departing MAN, and when within half-an-hour of LOT 289 touching down, you hear LOT 9002 departing, it makes you wonder what went on!

If you forget to fix the rudders with the gust lock, control surfaces flapping in the wind can indeed cause damage to themselves or actuators. Perhaps this is what happened?

Cheers,
Fred
I thought I was doing good trying to avoid those airport hotels... and look at me now.
