A few years ago, SAS MD-80's flew from CPH (Copenhagen) to SFJ (Kangerlussuaq, Greenland) about 2,129 miles!

Doesn't/Didn't Aeromexico operate the JFK-MEX route with the -80? I think that flight is about 2100 miles or so.

Midwest Express flies MKE-LAX in an MD-83. That has got to be at LEAST 75 or so miles longer than ORD-LAX.  Smile

Delta operates an MD-88 flight from ATL to ABQ-- not sure about the distance but it's 3+ hours. Not as long as the above, but interesting nonetheless. Almost transcon.

Until a few years ago, Alaska Airlines flew MD-80s with extended-range tanks on nonstop service from Anchorage (ANC) to Khabarovsk, Russia (KHV) as well as a few other cities in Russia like Vladivostok (VVO), Magadan (GDX), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (UUS), and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski (PKC).

The mileage?

ANC-VVO 3293nm
ANC-KHV 2933nm
ANC-UUS 2770nm
ANC-PKC 1960nm
ANC-GDX 1956nm

Some of these cities were tagged on, such as ANC-KHV-VVO, but the KHV segment was a nonstop.

TWA used to do JFK-PHX in an -80. Also, I've done STL-ABQ in a DC-9-51. Coming out of there was fun--no flap takeoff, slats only. I think Vr was 155kts.

I think Ozark used to do STL-SAN in a DC-9-34 which was the civilian version of the C9 with extra fuel tanks.

Sorry I don't know the mileage on any of those segments.TC

From San Diego, AA runs a lot of daily MD-80 flights to ORD. Ozark did fly SAN-STL with DC-9s. Midwest Express flew SAN-MKE with MD-80s and (I think) occasionally DC-9s.

When I was 7 years old we flew Continental from CLE to LAX and SFO to CLE. I was young so I don't remeber a lot but I believe they used a DC-9/30 Series on both of those flights. Not sure about mileage but that must have been a pretty long flight for a DC-9.

If memory serves correctly, Transwede used to operate ETOPS flights to the US from Sweden, I'm not sure of mileages and not sure of destinations either, just have a little idea in the back of my mind

The BOS-SDQ flights were with the 757 (TWA) and so were the Aeromexico JFK-MEX (all 757s).

The AM flights to JFK are and have always been 757s (ocasionally 767s). However, Am did operate a MTY-JFk service until a few months ago, and the length of this service was 1825 miles.

SAS never operated the MD-80 to SFJ as stated in the beginning of this topic, however, there was a service between Copenhagen and Narssarssuaq on the southern tip of Greenland, with a stop enroute at KEF.
SAS bought the MD-83's to operate primarily the CPH-TLV and CPH-JED routes.
According to my logbook, the Jeddah flights averaged 6:35 hours.I found those flights too long for my rear!

Not exactly the longest, but AA has 4 daily non stops between BDL and DFW which is listed at 4 hours 11 minutes and 1,278 Nautical miles.

Not really long, but Northwest runs a DC-9-50 on some BDL-MSP flights which is 912 NM and is 3 hours and 13 minutes.

Boston to Dallas non stop MD80 is 4 hours 32 minutes also.
