Back From Orlando On Delta Express

Mon Aug 23, 1999 10:39 am

Hi everyone. I just arrived a few hours ago from Orlando on Delta Express flight 2528. This was my first trip with Delta Express and overall, it was an enjoyable experience. Our departing flight from Columbus was on Delta Express flight 2535 departing at 6:45 a.m. and arriving in MCO at 8:55, but we arrived 15 minutes early. Delta Express' 737-200's do show their age, and are somewhat noisy, but they still fly very well. The cabin comfort is equal to Delta's. The seats were standard yet comfortable. Flight attendants on Delta Express are very courtious, professional, and friendly. The departing flight was uneventful, but we saw an amazing sunrise during the plane's climb. The return flight was also uneventful, but we also got another nise sunrise and a great view of downtown Columbus when we landed. Overall, I would definatly recomend Delta Express.

I did not get to do any spotting while at MCO. All I saw while I was there were a few United's Delta's, and Northwest's, and a stray ATA or two. I was very disappointed. I wish I could have stayed to watch for some good planes, but my parents wanted to get out of the airport as quickly as possible :-(. On the other hand, my parents left me at CMH for a while to do some spotting. For the first time I saw a tandem takeoff at CMH. A Skyway Beechcraft 1900 tookoff at the exact same time as a United Express CRJ on the two parallel runways. it was pretty cool. Also I saw a Mexicana A320 come in for a charter flight to Cancun. I was amazed to see the aircraft here! Apperently, Mexicana operates weekly charters from CMH to CUN. So anyway, it's good to be back, and now I have to catch up on all the topics I've missed!

Hey,

Too bad you didn't get to do any spotting at MCO. It's great airport for spotting... many different types and carriers (including Mexicana, Aeropostal, Air Jamaica, El Al etc.)... just check out the MCO photos on this site and you'll see what I mean.

Anyway - maybe next time!

FlyCMH:
IMHO, I just do not like Delta. However, your liking of Delta is your opinion, and you are entitled to it.

BTW, while you had a quick glimpse of MCO, did you see the satellite airside under construction? How completed is it. As you know, two weeks ago I was there(On my trip to NY) and it looks like they are about to put the finishing touches on it.

To FirstClass! And 24291

Actually, I do not like Delta either. The worst flight I had ever taken was with Delta. However I found Delta Express to be a great airline. It's not ment to be a first class airline with fancy emenities, but a quick, cheap, efficient way to travel. I found the value for the dollar to be very good. Also, 24291, there is a picture of a Mexicana A320 at CMH at an unofficial Port Columbus website at:

www.iwaynet.net/~maglick/portcolumbus/frame/index.html

BTW, this site is much better than the official Port Columbus website. The picture should be in the "slide show" part.

Addendum

FirstClass!, I did see some construction going on at MCO, but it was not close to being completed. It was most still a steel structure, no walls or glass had been put in yet. Also, I saw this from the tram to the main terminal, so it might be something else. I thought it was going to be a new airside, but I think I am wrong. Delta and Delta Express' airside is located in the corner of the airport (another reason I barely saw anything). When we were driving into the ticketing area, I was able to see some of the other airsides, but it was still dark, and it was extremely hazy, so I could not see much.

The new Satellite airside at MCO seems to be progressing nicely. The tram lines are in (I saw no tram yet) but all in all it seems near completion.

What's also interesting is the new taxiway under construction that is meant to connect the 18L/36R to 35L/17R. This taxiway will cross over the main entrance roads to the airport and should make for some great shots. It looks like it will be gently arching over the roads so I'm not sure how the planes will manuver over it (up and down the slope?) but I'm sure traffic will be slowing to watch!
