Emirates Announces Second Daily Flight To Lgw!

Wed Feb 27, 2002 9:48 pm

Just in from Justplanes:

Emirates will add a 2nd flight on its Dubai to London Gatwick route as follows :

Schedules of current daily flight :
EK011 DXB 0215-0655 LGW 1000-2000 DXB EK012
This flight is going to be operated by a Boeing 777.

Schedules of new flight :
EK015 DXB 0745-1225 LGW 1400-2359 DXB EK016
This flight will be operated by an Airbus A330.

The flight starts on 01Aug02 operating on Tue/Thu/Fri/Sun and becomes daily on 02Sep02.

On a side note, Emirates will also increase capacity on its Dubai to London Heathrow route by switching 1 of its 3 flights from a B777-200 to a B777-300 from 01Aug02.

Schedules as follows :
EK001 DXB 0745-1225 LHR 1400-2355 DXB EK002 (B777-300)
EK003 DXB 1415-1850 LHR 2030-0625 DXB EK004 (B777-300)
EK005 DXB 1600-2105 LHR 2230-0830 DXB EK006 (A330-300)

I expected the second daily Gatwick flight to have an afternoon departure from DXB and a red eye flight back to DXB. Anyways good news for LGW spotters as well as LHR spotters (two daily 773's!).

This was imminent with the excellent loads they have in the UK.
I think EK should change the nightly A332 flight to B772 and so make all the LHR flights on the B777.

I agree Qatar.

Also I think they should have another flight to LHR, one that land in the early morning. BA has one daily flight that arrives at 0635.

I have read somewhere that they will introduce a 4th flight into LHR but the time was not specified. EK have 12 daily slots at LHR which means they can have 6 daily flights to LHR so the 4th flight won't face any slot problems.

Thanks for that bit of information, I didn't know that.

I, too, have read somewhere that EK are interested in adding a fourth daily flight to LHR. I just checked loads for tomorrow's flights to LHR. The 0745 (EK001) flight has very few seats left, the 1445 (EK003) flight is fully booked and the 1710 (EK005) flight has very few seats left too. Coming back on March 1st the 1345 (EK002) flight has very few seats left again and both the 2000 (EK004) and the 2220 (EK006) flights are fully booked. As you can see, the loads are great!

I'm not too sure of the 12 daily slots at LHR at all. I was led to believe that the BHX flights were started due to the lack of slots at LHR ?

This is old news....

The LGW EK011/012 will actually be upgraded to a B777-300 LD.

The 2nd LGW flight will be a morning departure from DXB (0745) and return to DXB from LGW around lunchtime/midafternoon. The main reason for the timing of the flight like this is that it makes the new connection banks (KIX, PER, MRU) and the new KUL/JKT services It will also ease pressure on the EK001/EK002.

They can't make the EK005/006 a B777 'cos they don't have enough acft available. When EK003/004 upgrades to 773 the PER flights commence with a B777-200ER and NBO/DAR goes up to a B777-200ER LD on Sundays.

I am sure Emirates are ready to put on the 4th flight but this will depend on BA giving up slots at LHR. As i have said before, the early morning arrival/mid morning departure into/out of LHR is what they want. But these slots are tough to get hold off.

On a different note, Cochin negotiations are being finalised. Emirates will be looking to open up this route with a daily. I have also heard that Qatar Airways will be flying to Cochin later this year. Emirates is also working on getting Bangalore and Trivandrum in India up and running as soon as possible.

There was a report on the slot distribution at heathrow. I read this report about 2 months ago on a website. I can't find the link but i am searching for it.

These are the only ones i remember.

Emirates 60 slots in a 5-day period (6x daily flights)
Gulf Air 30 slots in a 5-day period (3x daily flights)
Qatar Airways 20 slots in a 5-day period (2x daily flights)

As soon as I find the link i will post it. If the topic is archived i'll post it in a new topic.

The MAN flight should be getting a second daily flight soon. The loads to MAN are excellent (90+%). Expect an afternoon departure ex DXB and a red eye flight back.

No new developments on MAN. While the loads justify an additional flight or an acft upgrade, aircraft availability is also an issue.

Talks are underway with the Pakistan govt. for additional access and frequency increases. Expect ISB and LHE to get more freqs. PEW acft goes upto A330 from A310/A300. You could see an additional freq. into PEW.

It unbeleivable how the demand on the EK DXB-LON-DXD routes is soooo inelastic....they seem to fill up whatever they send and still there is need for more. Amazing the traffic between the two cities considering that other than the EK flights there are many other flights operated by other airlines on this route......
Yet there are those who question EK's aquisition of the A380.....i think they just need to follow EK loads on their trunk routes and they will know why the A380 is completely justifiable....keep in mind EK's phenomenal growth in soo many markets as well...

I thought there were no landing fees to all airlines going to DXB and that there is complete open skies as well?

They don't pay for fuel either, which is what is pulling alot of airlines down nowadays.

David I'll have to check whether all airlines don't pay landing fees at DXB. As far as I know, only Emirates doesn't pay, but I could be wrong!

Guys don't forget they may be filling planes, but yields are quite low. Emirates are selling very cheap tickets to the Far East/Australia.
