Obviously this Aeroflot scheme was abandoned, but why? It's much better than their main stream one.... Then there's the purple marble/lightning scheme. Who came up with that...

Perhaps a mix of Ego and Nostalgia made them go back to the Soviet/Communist era style, by the way the original version of this livery did not have the 'double headed eagle' logo, and looked better without it.

It is still too expensive to repaint the whole fleet and this scheme does not have valid symbolism even though the eagle blazon is official blazon of Russian Federation. In other words an airline that was formed by SOVIET RUSSIA can not fly in such colours.
In addition to this the standard colours of Tu-154, Tu-134, Il-62, Il-86 and Il-96 is very good and fit well with Russian environment. The reason why people don't like it is because most of the Aeroflot planes that they see now days have not been cleaned or painted for ages.

Look how good this one looks:

It was an experimental scheme that was used only on the A310 when they first got them as a chance to clean up their image for western travelers. It was abandoned when surveys found that western travelers actually liked the old scheme better!

A Delta style livery would be ideal for SU, since they love to fly the flag. Turn the tail design upside down, change the shades of colour a bit, replace sky Blue with a very pale Grey (White would not look good) and you got the Russian flag. Add Aeroflot titles.

I think the newest Aeroflot livery (on the 777's and 737's) looks best out of the three - It's a fresh livery, yet with strong roots in the old Soviet era livery. Very classy IMO!  Smile

I like the newest Aeroflot livery on their 777's and 737's. The one shown on the A310 looked a bit on the tacky side, IMHO.

Other variations include the blue tail on the TU154 and the billboard titles on the TU204 demonstrator.

(no photos of the second scheme in the database)

IIRC, I read about a major rebranding that is planned for this year. I guess it would include a new livery as well.

I just realized that Delta is flying the Serbian flag on the tail of their aircraft.... I wonder if they know this...

This livery was introduced when Aeroflot introduced the A310 into service in the early 1990s. The reason it didn't appear in normal SU livery is that the aircraft were operated not by Aeroflot, but by RAL on a contract basis for Aeroflot, so what you see in the first photo in this thread is actually the livery for RAL, even though it says Aeroflot on the fuselage. After the crash in 1994, RAL was closed down, and the aircraft were transferred to Aeroflot, and repainted in the standard SU livery.
