Delta Flight Returns to Hartsfield Jackson Int. Twice

Wed Jan 03, 2018 1:35 pm

Getting straight to the point, a Delta flight (DL 284) bound from ATL-LHR experienced a mechanical issue an hour into the flight. The flight then delcared emergency and turned back to ATL. The flight landed safely and the plane was escorted to the gate. Things start to get really interesting as passengers then switch over to another flight (No flight number) which also had mechanical issues an hour into the flight, turned around and landed.

Really crazy to hear two different flights with the same issues. Here is the link to article for those who want to check it out.

Believe if was the same flight. Just two different planes. A return to the field and a plane change. Then the new plane returned to the field. Maybe the birds were in the cockpit again?

Better coverage from the AJC: http://www.ajc.com/news/local/breaking- ... 9fkgmsXvK/

As MCDU says, it was an air return, followed by a plane swap, followed by another air return in the new plane.

It has now made the Drudge Report.

The only thing common between the two flights was the pax and crew; could be something on a passenger electronic device?

Please discuss.

Um. Lightning can strike twice, despite the odds. The first iteration of DL 284 was a B763. What about the second iteration? Now if it was the exact same MX problem on two different AC, then that would be a little spooky. Unless we assume foul play, like a hack job.

Well, there's the problem! They tried to go ATL-LHR in an A320! PRobably got an hour out and realized they'd run out of fuel.

Looks like it was N828MH and N830MH, both 764's

Parts break, maybe they got a caution light and turns out a brittle wire broke, or a solder job gave out? I don't know what happened here, but things do break after landings and from vibrations.

First flight reported an engine stall after crew heard a loud bang. Second flight reported a loud bang similar to compressor stall, but no actual engine event - returned as a precaution.
Did they serve any champagne in first class?
