wasn't this a scene from "the high and the mighty"

Pilot slaps copilot. Copilot comes out of cockpit crying. Sr Cabin Crew pleads her to return. All these as 324 pax onboard had no clue what's happening.

Are there usually rules against couples flying together, especially if they're both pilots ?

A little misleading title, no? He slapped her and she ran out crying. That's not really 'fighting it out' right ?

Depends on how you look at it. The fact there was physical contact, and in some countries, that is considered domestic violence. I am more shocked at the fact the Captain lost all composure and elected to slap the female pilot. So much for a sterile cockpit!! Although the airlines says they aren't a couple. Regardless, it's a sad outcome for their careers.

I would say this is air piracy. Assault and battery of cockpit crew in any circumstances is nothing less than endangering passengers lives.

I believe Air India has the rule not to roster relatives together. New Year London shopping conflicts could be bad for CRM.

Didn't something like this happen on another Jet flight but the 2 were males 'duking it out?'

It has happened on other flights; I recall that a Qantas captain and a S/O had an argument in Dallas and it has also happened with TK and AT (the latter, with tragic results).

I would think in this case that it's worse for the male pilot than it is for the female FO.

What I heard is that they are both Captains, however the PIC was the female pilot seating in the left seat and the male pilot was the acting FO seating on the right seat, It could be a training flight, a line check, or just lack of FO, but not all Captains can seat on the right seat to operate a flight, soI guess the male pilots is an TRI, TRE or LTC.

It is not the first time this has happened, I know few other cases some of them involving pilots, cabin crews in Indian Airlines, I must say that few years ago it was more normal, even with issue that for us could look 'unusual' like caste related issues, woman in charge or age.

In early '79, I was on a PAL Legazpi to Manila flight on a YS-11 which do not have a cockpit door. Sometime during the flight, I saw the flight crew having an argument and the captain subsequently whacked the co-pilot over the back of the head. The FA closest to them then hastily stepped over and draw the curtain shut behind her. Presumably, she mediated successfully as she came out minutes later with no sign of further dispute.

You're getting confused with a Bollywood script. They first fight in the cabin, then make peace and vow eternal love, and then the whole aircraft erupts in cheerful singing and claps and dances in the aisles... :rotfl:

The is totally unacceptable and unprofessional behavior on the part of the male pilot. He should be fired as commuted a criminal act of assault and endangered all on the aircraft.
Of course this is getting attention due to the rise of the outing of numerous men as sexual abusers and assaulters upon women in the entertainment and media industries but is also far too common throughout other businesses as happened here. Such assaults are about men wanting to keep their superiority, power and control over women, using abuse and assault, including extorting sex acts (ie: rape) as part of that power play. In this case, the male thought he should be the PIC as is the male and the women in the subordinate FO position. I am quite sure that the woman was the PIC as better qualified in this particular paring of pilots and the male should have respected that. There could be a pay difference between the 2 that too many men believe should always substantially in favor of their gender.

According to FlightGlobal, both captains left the cockpit, that's the more worrying part. Ok, it was on autopilot, before anyone thinks I'm scare mongering.

Before we get too carried away, let's not forget that we don't know a lot of detail about the whole thing.

If, as suggested above, the lady was in the left seat and if, as stated in the article (which is very poorly written - so its hard to trust the details) it was the captain slapping the first officer, then the scenario is that there was an argument and the lady slapped the man before running out of the cockpit. Very different than everyone here is assuming!

(N.B. I believe in equality so if that is the case then she should get the same treatment as the guy if it was the other way round...)

One report puts the lady in the left seat, the male is copilot. He slapped her. Now his license is suspended and she is de-rostered.

I think you will find you are mistaken - it was clearly the other way around, as it always is.

And .... just supposing for one minute that it might have been a woman assaulting a man - this could only have been because the man made unwanted sexual advances towards her. There can be no other explanation. The man is guilty. The man is always guilty. Not having the full details yet has nothing to do with it.

It will be difficult for anyone (pilot, co-pilot, airline) coming out of this situation in a better position than they entered.

So my question, did he slap her as a lover or a F/O, and did she respond as a lover or a PIC?
Imagine for a second her overriding his decision on how the landing should be set up or some such...its not that silly of a question hence the reason why fraternization is frowned upon in the workplace.
