What will happen to Etihads 77L's

Tue Jan 09, 2018 9:44 pm

As the thread states, what are peoples opinions on what will happen with them?

It seems a waste of aircraft, especially that they own them after the purchase from Air India a few years ago.

There hasn't been no statement from them saying anything other than they'll stop using them on scheduled services from March 2018

They will surely find their way to central Arizona and contribute millions of dollars to the local economy. Can't wait!

Maybe will get some short-term use from airlines that are currently battling with the 789 issues at current - which is really just starting to become an real issue. Maybe EH could wet lease them as temporary cover to these airlines.

VS/NZ have both been hit hard by the 789 engine issues - with NZ currently having there 3 early 789s all parked up at AKL engine less and all the windows wrapped so its going to be an while before they are back in service.

As NZ was first to operate the 789, they are probably pretty early on with having this engine issues with other likely to have the same in comming months.

Is there really a need for a third thread on this topic?

That sounds reasonable. I didn't think about that before.

Is there really a need for you to act like the board proctor?

Hey guys,
Perhaps Etihad can lease them to governments worldwide, like their A340-500 in service with the Italians.... I-TALY.
Good way to win friends and influence people, lol, and create a tiny little niche market!
Cheers,

It was not my intention »to act like the board proctor«, but I wondered if it may not be better to continue a existing thread on this topic instead of starting a new one.

PS: Is there really a need for you to post your so kind reply twice?

That would be ironic as they were subs for AI's early built 788s

The topic does ask a valid question about the 77L in general. How does the aircraft fit in today's world of aviation and what is it's future?
