B747 Fleet Routes 2018-Details

Wed Jan 10, 2018 8:36 am

Hello forum members
As you all probably know, the B747 is nearing its end across the world with only a handful of carriers bringing it through into the 2020's. I have been researching all over looking for information on the current and future operations of the 747 but it has been hard so I thought I would contribute what I know and with some help we might be able to create a table of the routes the 747s are operating and discuss other 747 timetabling information. Obviously, there are holes in my research so I would like to hear your input to help complete the table. Other information such as last flights by a particular airline to a particular destination, last flights by an airline and the introduction of new services are appreciated. I think this is a really good resource, I hope to see it grow and become successful.

Qantas has announced that Brisbane to Los Angeles and Los Angels to New York will be replaced by a 787 at some point next year. Sydney - Vancouver flights are seasonal, operating only December - February and June - July. Sydney - Hong Kong flights are operated by the 747 March - November. These will probably be replaced by the A380 at some point. Sydney - Los Angles is usually only once or twice a week on the 747, depending on demand. Qantas will continue to have the 747 for at least another 5 or more years, with Sydney - Santiago and Sydney - Johannesburg likely be being the last routes due to ETOPS restrictions.

I found the official list of BA 747 destinations: Beijing, Boston, Cape Town, Dubai, Lagos, Las Vegas, Mexico, Miami, New York (JFK), Phoenix, San Francisco and Toronto

China Airlines no longer flies its 747s into Sydney, with both flights now on the A359.

Didn't BA upgauge flight 066 PHL-LHR to a 744?
Do not bring stranger girt into your room. The stranger girt is dangerous, it will hurt your life.

Correct, that would be one of the "10 more destinations" I presume.

One of British Airways' Delhi flights (143/142) is a 744 at least for the winter timetable.

BA 744 departures today:

IAD
JFK
KWI
LAS
LAX
LOS
MIA
NBO
ORD
PHL
PHX
SAN
SFO

For BA, I think both year-round JNB flights are A380.

For LH, JNB is a 748, not a 744.

Fun list idea.
Never be proud. Always be grateful.

There's no point differentiating the QF routes by ER or not now, they rotate freely through the system. Last captive route for the ERs was SYD-DFW-BNE-SYD, which was upguaged to A388 in September 2014.

Also some MEL-HKG-MEL flights are on the 744 too.

El Al sometimes sends a 744 to Heathrow. One was in yesterday afternoon and again a couple of days earlier.

El Al sends an eclactic mix day to day. Yesterday was a 744 and a 763 in the evening whilst today it's a 789 and a 772 later this evening. Sometimes even a 739 is included in the mix,one being sent in the other day.

Rossiya also flies their 747 to Punta Cana.
Wamos also flies to Guatemala City (alternates with A330).

Iraqi Airways also have one or two 747-400s in their fleet, ex-Malaysia machines.
I don't know if these perform regular flights or just Hajj or something.
I wonder when people will understand:
Embraer 190 or simply E190, not ERJ-190.
Boeing 747-8, not Boeing 747-800. Same goes for 787.
Airbus A320, not Airbus 320.
Airbii does not exist.

CI don’t and I’m not sure they ever did fly the 744 to SYD.

QF did use them MEL-HKG for a while on a daily basis, pretty sure there’s no more scheduled in the next few months, was meant to be year round but changed back to an A333.

Qantas won't sell you a seat just to fly LAX-JFK. They don't have traffic rights within the United States. Your ticket would have to originate or end in Australia. I would mention the SYD-LAX-JFK route as follows:

Sydney:
Los Angeles 744ER with continuing service to New York.

But other than that very nice job! Thank you for your comprehensive list of 747 routes worldwide. It will be for me a good reference.

Seems like Air India runs its 747 on the route BOM-HYD-JED-COK-JED-HYD-BOM. So 2 pairs of international routes, and 1 domestic route.

BA flies at least seasonally to SEA using the 744. Picking a random day in the Summer (Fri Jul 13), I show 1 flight on a 777 and the other on a 744.

Here's what's currently loaded in OAG for 2018. I don't have time to edit this down to one direction, sorry. 405 one-directional routes, and the number of flights loaded into OAG.

BA's Seattle flight usually is a 744 during the summer season. Not sure if that will be the case in 2018.
Recently LH's 747 has been an 747-8, but I think they have switched back to the older 400's again. Maybe equipment shuffling was the reason?

Could add CWL to that list (techincally). Although movements their are pretty adhoc.

Well, since BA mainline does not have a service of any kind to CWL (the moves to/from CWL are empty, and only exist because British Airways Maintenance Cardiff does all heavy maintenance on 744s) that's arguable. Movements are certainly adhoc, because BAMC also handles 767s, 777s and 787s and a 744 coming out may be matched by a completely different aircraft type going in, or vice versa.

ATLAS AIR (5Y) still does a scheduled IAH-LAD-IAH on a 744.

Summertime sees a lot of flights from LED and VKO to Crimea as well as Sochi, all for little money, mostly less than EUR100 one way. The all Eco configs of FV allow great freedom of choice for an Eco ticket, even Upper Deck seats. I highly recommend FV! A shame they don't operate the Roller 744s UN once had...

BA no longer operates the 744 between London-Heathrow and Mexico City....it has been a 789 since November 2017.

British Airways 744 routing update

Kuwait City 744
Capetown 744
Johannesburg 744
Nairobi 744
Vancouver 744
Phoenix 744
Las Vegas 744
New York (JFK) 744
San Francisco 744
San Diego 744
Los Angeles 744
Denver 744
-----unconfirmed------
Beijing 744
Boston 744
Dubai 744
Lagos 744
Miami 744
Toronto 744

I gathered my information through monitoring the flightradar24 filters (British Airways filter used) and then selected all the 744's and went from there, time costly I know, but I did not have any reliable up-to-date resources. The ones aforementioned (Kuwait down to Denver) were gathered that way. I had seen the British Airways info: https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/in ... ing747-400 and added those cities into my research before putting them in the post but when I went to put them in the post I forgot where I had gotten the info from so I went to flightradar to find the flights. Will keep previous routes as the BA website may be a couple of months behind however I will put the info from the BA website in and will work my waythrough confirming each one.

Yes... the "Houston Express".
And media around the world saying that US lost their last pax 747 when Delta retired theirs... :liar:
I wonder when people will understand:
Embraer 190 or simply E190, not ERJ-190.
Boeing 747-8, not Boeing 747-800. Same goes for 787.
Airbus A320, not Airbus 320.
Airbii does not exist.

Please don't forget to mention you advertise participation in illegal activity -- i.e. illegal crossing of Ukrainian border and landing in UKFF/SIP -- airport closed to operations to civilized humanity.

BA 238/9 is a daily high-j 744. The other two or three flights into Boston are a mix of 772, 77W and 789 depending on the day.

Again, it is not possible any longer to differentiate the subtype of 744 QF will use on most routes because they all rotate freely.

However given that the 744ERs are now the most numerous subtype of 744 in the QF fleet, your odds of catching one is better than ever before.

Also the SYD-LAX-JFK and return flights are marketed as such based on the single flight number but unless the 789's introduction has changed this the aircraft for it comes from and returns to BNE, not SYD.
