Kuala Lumpur 748

SYD usually get 748 during the ramp up of the high season before getting A388.
NRT and KIX get the 748 not sure if its seasonal or not. PVG gets it seasonally.
SIN got the 748 during the Summer. So does YVR.
PRG has also gotten it during the Summer the past few years.
CJU gets 744 regularly
SFO is 748 year round
ORD and IAD each get a couple of weeks during the Summer
One of the 2 JFK flights is a 748 for a large part of the year (I think it reverts to A388 during the summer).

Sorry for how messy this is
Hope it helps

Found it... Mahan flies THR MHD on 743! So one classic still operational, today as IRM1035! You just got to love Iran domestic flights! Oh, Aseman still flies 727 according tl the current departure schedule of THR. That would be nice, connecting from a 727 to a 747-300.

Quite an impressive list, love the maps, I'm always interested in threads that follow the remaining pax 747's

One route missing on your complete 747 route map is the IAH-LAD route by Atlas Air

The twice weekly (thrice weekly seasonally) Houston Express flight on Atlas Air for Sonair is not on the list: Houston - Luanda on a 744. It opened to the public six months ago from when it used to be a charter.

Did BA stop sending the 744 ot Houston seasonally? They used to. FWIW LH normally downgrades the A380 to a 748i each winter for a month. They did this year and last.

QF does still use the regular 744 (powered by RB211) on the SFO-SYD.

What are the longest 744 and 748 flights for their respective operators? SFO-SYD has got to be up there.

Yes it does as mentioned here below all QF 744’s 744ER’s do the same routes now no specific routes for the ER’s anymore.

All QF’s routes are quite long to JNB/SCL/LAX/SFO/YVR with YVR-SYD being the longest.

LH FRA-EZE might be the longest 748 route?

Are my chances good if I book KLM AMS-ORD on a 74M/744 it'll be a 74M/744? I don't want an equipment change and I end up on a boring A330 or 787. This would be in September.

Well, as of today (25/1/18) I cannot find any information relating to the Amsterdam-Chicago route on KLM611 regarding the retirement of the 744/M from the route however it is quite possible that things will change between now and September. On flightaware and flightradar24, KL611 is listed as a 744 flight and there are no 77W 's listed on the schedules. September is quite a bit into the KLM 744/M retirement program so there is the chance it may be downgraded to a 333, 789 or 772/W or a 744/M will go tech and will be replaced by another aircraft. The malfunction chance is impossible to predict however, KLM currently serves LAX, YYZ, IAH, HKG, CUR, MEX, ICN, DEL, NBO, ORD, JFK and PBA with the 744/M's. JFK has inconsistencies with their 747 operations from KLM and Hong Kong has 1 out of 2 flights allocated the 747. Curacao has 1 out of 3 flights allocated the 747. I'm am not the most avid KLM fan so I do not know their demand on the flights however if my predictions were to be taken into account, LAX, YYZ, HKG, ORD and either PBA or CUR will be some of the last flights operated by KLM's 747's. But like i said, my predictions could be totally wrong and flipped around, they could be right, I don't know. I will consult some friends on their knowledge regarding the question but as of today I have limited information.

The current ones or the last ones, unfortunate, A UA 744 was my first model ever and we used to get them twice-daily here in Sydney. The Blue tulip was IMO one of the best schemes ever. I am also a big fan of the delta livery of current and it looks fantastic on the 747.

How long do you all think the 747 will be around?

secondly, are we talking passenger only? I see no cargo airlines in this trend. Cargolux operates a few 747's as does Emirates Sky Cargo, Etihad Crystal Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo, China Airlines Cargo, etc,,

third, when did Asiana stop flying the 747 to SEA? When I flew to SEA from PHX 3 yeears ago I saw an Asiana pax 747 land at SEA..and there was an EVA Air pax 747 there as well....

According to this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1365789

EVA Air pax 747 operations are over

Regarding how long will 747 remain in operation -- depends on what you are asking about? If you want to know the day the last 747 is retired, don't forget -- the plane is actually still in production.
If you are asking specifically about passenger 747-400 in scheduled service -- the consensus, on this site, seems to be another 5 years are pretty much guaranteed (courtesy of BA, also of LH and probably KL).

LH Cargo doesn’t operate 747 anymore. They retired their last 742 in 2005.

As far as the schedule goes, it is a B747-400M (Mixed Configuration) flying between Amsterdam - Chicago although I have not checked Chicago - Amsterdam. The schedule sees through to December of this year however the schedules information may receive updated information relating to flights as close as next week. Your best bet would be to listen to the press

I think the BA routes from LHR to CPT and LAX are both in excess of 5000nm.

I managed to randomly find two tonight when looking at some other 744 routes. LH740 is FRA-KIX which is 5013nm, and LH501 is FRA-GIG which is 5155nm.

The IAH-LAD service has been terminated meaning an end to the US registered 747 unless Atlas puts it on another route, and IAH has now lost its title as a 6 continent airport :(

Are my chances good if I book KLM AMS-ORD on a 74M/744 it'll be a 74M/744? I don't want an equipment change and I end up on a boring A330 or 787. This would be in September.

KLM Wil reduced the ORD operation with the 747 to a mix of 747 and 777. ICN will see the same with I believe both a three day a week 747 service.

Can't tell if you're splitting hairs here but, I meant Ikeja in Nigeria. My mistake.

I take it QF is the only airline still using 744s on routes longer than 5000nm?

Here are all the routes over 5000mi <-- not nm so if you want to do it, 1mi is 0.86nm so some routes on the list might not actually be 5000nm
LHR-CPT is 5995mi (don't have the time to translate to nm at the moment) (BRITISH AIRWAYS)
...
BNE-LAX is 7162 (QANTAS)
SYD-JNB is 6863 (QANTAS)
SYD-LAX is 7488 (QANTAS)
SYD-SCL is 7061 (QANTAS)
SYD-SFO is 7418 (QANTAS)
SYD-YVR is 7757 (QANTAS)
ORY-MRU is 5851 (CORSAIR)
ORY-RUN is 5802 (CORSAIR)

I used Great Circle Mapper and selected "nautical miles"; most of those routes are under 5000nm or flown by 748. For the old 744, the longest current routes outside of QF (which flies all of the longest routes) are:
LHR-CPT
ORY-MRU
ORY-RUN

Really does show the big difference between mi and nm and that QF, rather than BA, could be considered "King of 747-400 Operations" in terms of distance. Any chance they will keep the RR-powered VH-OJS, -OJU, and -OJT?

Longest RR-powered 744 flights are with QF, longest GE-powered are with QF, and longest PW-powered are with SS (Corsair).

Looks like I missed AMD-HKG. Everything with KE, LH, or CA over 5000nm is 748, not 744. Interesting to note that the longest 747 flights are actually with the QF 744, not any 748.

It's probably already been posted but I flew HKG-BKK on a Thai 744 a few weeks back. They also had one doing BKK-HKT and I'm sure a few other places.
