Super bowl LII flights

Mon Jan 22, 2018 1:45 pm

So far I see the following:

WN 1x BOS-MSP
DL has added or upguaged and will be flying 10x BOS-MSP, and 8x PHL-MSP
AA added1x BOS-MSP. It's sold out and all but one of the (only?) 3 PHL-MSP are sold out
UA adds 1x PHL-MSP and 1x BOS-MSP they've also added a 777 EWR-MSP

All I can find for now

That's odd. I woulda expected DL to fly that one, not UA.

AA had previously loaded 32Ts from LAX for NBC and upgauges from all hubs, as of this writing they have added a BOS-MSP on friday and MSP-BOS on monday as well as an extra PHL-MSP-PHL on friday, and 2 extra RTs on monday.

I'm sure the airlines are happy that the MN Vikings lost, since half of the Super Bowl needs to travel!

B6 and DL both added Houston flights last year (HOU and IAH) and both were pretty much sold out to the tune of $1000 RT.

Im surprised that UA added a flight from PVD considering their normal schedule offering is an absolute joke at best.

Based on the seat map its a 737-900ER and already has 25+ seats bought at $900 RT

B6 probably should have started sooner their BOS-MSP flight to cash in.

Interesting I still don't see a PHL-MSP outbound Friday but I do see a return on Monday.

I see the UA MSP-PHL flight on Monday is 2am depature. the MSP-BOS is a 330 am departure. Interesting way to do the flights. I guess that is the only way to make sure you have time after the game to get to the airport but that makes for a long day.. haha

Yes. It seems WN only will fly Eagles fans back to PHL. Strange.

You beat me to it. Given the cost of SB tickets, airfare, hotel, etc. that's one expensive trip no matter where from.

Where is United going to park the 2 777s at MSP? Pretty sure, all of their gates can fit a 757 at the max. Will they rent some intl. gates from Delta that night.

All of AA's normal MSP frequencies were already upgauged and published months ago (as was the 32T), the AA adds loaded today are just for the two final team's fanbases

So will American and United fly in extra staff to help with all the additional flights or just send some pizzas and a `good luck' card from Hallmark?

Each team in the Super Bowl only gets 15-20% of the tickets. Every other teams gets a small allocation, the NFL gets about 25% for sponsors, celebrities, etc. It would have impacted some of the people attending but not by that much.

20% of US Bank Stadium capacity - That could fill 27 EK 3-Class A380's.

An Eagles fan would never eat those pretzels (aka crackers) anyway. You need to have a Philly pretzel to know what a pretzel is.

MSP is one of UA's primary ORD diversion cities so E-10 can take anything up to and including a 747. The 777's will not be at the terminal at the same time so it should not be an issue.

Quite a bit of parking room at the airport, actually. I've heard they will use 4/22 to park aircraft, provided it is not needed, of course.

Hmm, IF you decided to book a non-stop PHL-MSP leaving Friday Feb 2 returning Mon Feb 5 the least expensive flight (using Google MATRIX) is currently sitting @ $1370. Ouch

Gotta love "trademarked" names where everybody else has to call it "The Big Game", as if that somehow protects the copyright.

Would’ve expected the hometown airline to have much more and bigger equipment then that!

AA has always been a lightweight on MSP-PHL for whatever reason. Currently, it is just 2x E-190's.

From the pit of misery, PHILLY PHILLY! That said, I'm surprised that AA isn't deploying an A332 on 2 days.

I guess its good that there are extra hours for staff to work. Seems like alot of money to spend to watch people throw a ball around.

I'm not sure how the ticketing works, but a fair amount of tickets are sold before we even know is in the game. Looking at ticket prices on a few sites, combined with hotel they run anywhere between $3-6K single tickets alone are at least $1,500.. Add on last minute airfares, that is one hell of an expensive trip.
