Eritrean Airlines at MXP?

Sun Feb 04, 2018 8:02 pm

For the last month I have been trying to find some information regarding this flight to MXP. I have called numerous numbers on their website and called Malpensa air with their response being that they don't even fly there even though they do. Anyone know by chance wether they have an office in Italy or a way to book this flight?

The flight shows up as Flight B8370...twice weekly Asmera-Khartoum-Cairo-Milan Malpensa (return via the same way) and twice weekly nonstop (the return is Flight B8371). The equipment is usually an Airbus A319 operated by Olympus Airways (leased from AerCap, ex-Mexicana and Avianca). As for an office in Italy, I don't see one listed.

They seem to have a website which seems to be official ... Not sure whether you already found it yourself ...

List of offices, including one in Italy - http://www.eritrean.aero/offices.html
Schedule, which says the flight to Milan is only on Wednesdays - http://www.eritrean.aero/schedule.html
There is also a contact form - http://www.eritrean.aero/contact.html

Good luck!

If the OP is like me, their answer will be "why not?"

Some people just love adventure and would love to say they've been smewhere just for the sake of being able to say so.

I've even looked at what Young Pioneer Tours had to offer to inner China, North Korea (pre Warmbier), Chernobyl, etc... And they were pretty affordable, even though I haven't done any. I've even done things that a lot of people have probably done but not much that I know like dance to 99 Luftballons in a pub in Frankfurt with some German ladies. My buddy and I were literally the talk of the town!

I was particularly interested that's why I asked the question and sure why not the world is there for all of us to explore!

I asked the question because of the fact that the OP is under 21 and I was therefore curious about his interest in visiting a lesser known country such as Eritrea!

For your information I'm very well travelled myself having personally visited 93 countries and been to 327 destinations worldwide and travelled around the globe several times over hence my curiosity nothing more nothing less :-)

I visited North Korea at the tender age of 18, and the Romania of Ceauşescu at 17, and I honestly think it made me see things I wouldn't have seen at, say, 38...

If we're going to quote stories I'll add one of my own.

In May 1982 when I was at 'the tender' age of 16 I was part of a British aviation group that was given official permission to enter the former East Germany and go on a guided tour of the former East Berlin airport of Schonefeld with armed East German guards in our entourage making sure that we didn't take 'inappropriate' photos. We were the informed that our hotel room would probably be bugged which added to the experience and was so 'James Bond' to me being 16 at the time.

Not North Korea but a similar situation to your experience when you were slightly older at 18.

It still doesn't answer my original question though!

Having personally travelled to ten countries on the African continent I'm still rather curious as to why the OP is interested in visiting Eritrea as he often only refers to domestic travel within the United States of America and his family connections in Germany, that's why I find his particular interest in Eritrea rather interesting as surely there are other more established African countries that would be more appealing for for a first time visit to the continent especially if you haven't travelled much beforehand!

To tell you all the truth I actually I don't have the biggest intention of going to Eritrea as I only wanted to see what the process would be for buying a ticket to Eritrea with Eritrean airlines but now that I read some of your comment it actually has given me a bigger interest of the country (with me having done some research) and it may be on my list then in the following years ;)! Thank you all for your help!

My one & only exposure to Eritrean airlines, was when I moved to San Francisco with no job prospects & I interviewed with an Eritrean couple who had some connection to Eritrean airlines & they needed an expert tariff agent to combine mileage fares to triops on Eritrean Airlines via whatever Europe gateway they had (Milan sounds familiar) It was too shady of a deal for me to risk my client list & their compensation included trips on Eritrean air, where ever they may fly, I passed on the job, but these agents seemed to be one of the few with bulk ticketing rights, that I was aware of, I think they have a company that represents them here in the USA. Wish I could tell you who they are, it's been 15 years & a lifetime ago.
