Rumored Frontier New Service

Wed Feb 07, 2018 7:20 pm

I’ve seen floating around in a few threads about frontier potentially announcing some new routes later this week.
The Facebook page of Long Island MacArthur Airport even stated today that there will be a new “air service announcement” on Frontier tomorrow.
Any thoughts on what these new routes (not just to/from ISP) could be?

F9 has announced dropping a number of ISP routes. I could see them switching it around to others, or scaling back. LOL. Knowing F9, they will give it another try with different routes, so they will probably announce more stuff.

Exactly. Maybe they're going to add some summer seasonal to replace the ones they've dropped?

This is the second time I've seen this. Is it believed to be limited to ISP or more throwing of the darts systemwide?

Nothing wrong with throwing the "darts" as long as you get a few winners here and there. :dollarsign:

Its a big announcement!

https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/ne ... on-at.html

"Raleigh-Durham International Airport is expected to announce a major service expansion Thursday.

The airport sent a notice to members of the press Wednesday, that a "significant air service announcement" would happen Thursday in Terminal 2.

While officials from the airport didn't identify the carrier, sources close to the situation say to expect an aggressive expansion play by Denver-based Frontier Airlines. Sources say the carrier is supposed to announce flights out of RDU to Houston; San Antonio; Buffalo, New York; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

All but Houston – currently served by both United Airlines and Southwest Airlines – are routes on RDU’s top unserved markets list.

The company had already announced flights to Providence, Rhode Island, and Kansas City, Missouri, set to begin this spring. Already, Frontier has seven nonstop services on RDU’s flight map, including a recently launched flight to Austin, Texas.

A Frontier spokesman said the RDU expansion announcement event Thursday would be one of 15 across the country – representing a major growth move by the firm.

Frontier had just 4.7 percent of the enplaned passenger market share in 2017, with nearly 136,000 passengers boarding its planes at RDU. Thursday’s announcement will boost the modest 2.3 percent growth rate the airline reported at RDU in 2017 in the new year.

As talk emerged that RDU was making an air service announcement, transportation activist Joe Milazzo, executive director of the Regional Transportation Alliance business coalition, called any expansion “a tremendous sign of the confidence the carrier has in our airport, our airport’s leadership, and the overall vibrancy and trajectory of our market.”

Mike Walden, economist at N.C. State University, said service growth at the airport isn’t surprising, in light of “the continued strong growth in the Triangle region.”

Let the guessing game begin!!!

I think they will also announce pulling out of a few markets or dropping a few routes. One market I see them dropping is PIT.

Speaking of Frontier, I just noticed that the only year round routes that aren't dropping at ISP are Orlando, Tampa, and West Palm Beach (ATL, MSP, DTW, and ORD are seasonal). So basically they're going head to head with WN on their year round routes. Geez.

So putting it together it looks like the following cities will get hit by F9's "darts" tomorrow. Some seem to have been announced in advance like IND-PHL which had a low-key announcement last week, making it seem likely that it is only part of a larger announcement.
Actually a few were released last week :? https://news.flyfrontier.com/frontier-airlines-announces-nine-routes----with-celebratory-fares-as-low-as-29/
Colorado Springs, Colo. To/from Atlanta (new) DL back to 2x daily in response? Maybe they finally resume MSP-COS as well?
Denver to/from Fort Myers (expanded to year-round)
Las Vegas to/from Raleigh-Durham (expanded to year-round)
Miami, Fla. To/from San Juan, P.R. (new)
Philadelphia to/from Dallas/Ft. Worth (new)
Philadelphia to/from Grand Rapids, Mich. (new) How long will that last?
Philadelphia to/from Indianapolis, Ind. (new)
Tulsa, Okla. to/from San Jose, Calif. (new) How long will that last?
Tulsa, Okla. To/from Washington-Dulles (new)
So these look set to get further routes:
RDU
IAH
ISP
BUF
SJU Interesting! Is tourism back?
PHL http://www.philly.com/philly/business/frontiers-airline-philadelphia-internation-three-new-flights-indianapolis-dallas-fort-worth-20180201.html
TUL http://www.tulsaworld.com/business/frontier-airlines-adding-new-nonstop-flights-from-tulsa/article_2aa3384c-6d08-573a-bb64-dc4c36a185a2.html
IAD Maybe
CVG Seems rumored
IND Hopeful
DTW Why not, its the most unserved market ever?
CLE
DEN (Only if they launch new cities I would think)
SJC

Seems big, I wonder what will be dropped to make room for this, though.
Its interesting how some of the routes have been dripping out over the past week, I wonder why?

F9 seems to be ok with shifting service around over the course of a year.

Considering WN let F9 go un-responded to at DEN, and DL wouldnt even add an MSP flight for the super bowl (UA of all airlines did), id like to see them try some larger markets, as opposed to the MSY sized places. F9 could conceivably do ATL/DFW/IAH/MSP/LAS from PVD, the later 4 of those have all previously sustained service from PVD in years prior on other carriers.
Experience is what you get when what you thought would work out didn't!

Reno's Twitter just said an announcement regarding new flights is coming tomorrow.

Guessing it's Frontier as well. They only serve DEN from RNO. I really don't have a good guess on what else they could serve from there maybe DFW and PHX?

Frontier is adding the right routes at RDU (except Houston) if the list is correct. They just had a regional manager job based at RDU posting a couple weeks back.

LAS should be a no brainer... im flying back midday on a Saturday at $600 to avoid paying $900 r/t A ULCC could charge 3x their normal fares and run away with the market.

A previous post indicated 15 announcements (cities?) will be made tomorrow:
A Frontier spokesman said the RDU expansion announcement event Thursday would be one of 15 across the country – representing a major growth move by the firm
to do it.

Many airports do not announce new services themselves -- or tease with pre-announcement announcements -- until after the airlines have. So it looks like there are at least twice as many airports involved in tomorrow's announcements as you have listed! And maybe they will not be known... until tomorrow.

To do? No. But the area is exploding in terms of population and quality job growth, which is driving the airline growth. It's a great place to live, but not really to visit. The beaches of NC are great though. The Outer Banks and Wilmington area beaches are incredible if you like laid back and relaxing beaches.

I am only seeing a handful of new routes, which are already listed above. The schedule does not appear to be fully loaded yet. Pretty early for F9, usually the routes come out near midnight EST.

ryanrap1 wrote:

You can only find them with dummy bookings. Usually the rollout process is slow and cumbersome, with the website becoming more and more glitchy as the night rolls along. The route map is not usually updated until the next day.

Part of the problem is their site lists all the cities which can be connected to from the origin city as well.

I found AUS to OMA operating on Monday's and Friday's. Also OMA-DEN goes to 6x weekly instead of 4x weekly. The times don't make any sense though so there is something else too that I just can't find yet. I'll keep looking.

Ok, they shifted the times on the OMA-LAS flights and the OMA-LAS on Sunday now leaves at 10am so that works. I still haven't figured out Friday yet. They really messed with the schedules and now some other flights don't work anymore on other days of the week. Wow, what a puzzle!
