DC-8 Accident At Changi

Sat Mar 02, 2002 5:05 am

I've just read in the papers that a DC-8 freighter aircraft was involved in a minor accident. The plane belonged to Fine Air, a freight-forwarding company. The accident happened while the plane was taxiing.

I'll post more info as and when I got it.

Here is the full article of the accident.

Friday, March 1 2002 - The Straits Times

AN American cargo plane landed in a ditch early yesterday morning as it was taxiing towards a parking bay at Changi Airport. None of the three crew onboard was hurt.

However, the landing gear of the McDonnell Douglas DC-8 plane was badly damaged as its nose crashed into the ground, leaving its body in midair.

An ambulance and a fire engine were sent to the scene at Terminal One, said a Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) spokesman, adding that the accident did not disrupt operations at the airport.

The plane's operator, Fine Air Services of Florida, is a freight-forwarding company. The CAAS is investigating the cause of the accident.

The DC-8s (various series) of Fine Air, Air Transport International (ATI) and Arrow Air have been making regular visits to Changi and Paya Lebar Airports in recent month on behalf of the US Air Force.
