What Airports Have Been Your Home Airports?

Sat Mar 02, 2002 7:36 am

Which airports have been your home airports during your life and what cities did you live in to make this airport your home airport? When I say home airport, I mean the one closest to your home that you would begin your trips by air at or would have if you had ever gone on a trip by air from that city. For me it would be the following:

Tri Cities, Tennessee- I lived in Johnson, City and that was the closest.

PHL- I lived in Philadelphia, so obviously PHL would be the airport I would have used, but I didn't live there long enough to ever use it.

CVG- I lived in Cincinnati, so CVG was what I used.

ATL- I currently live in Atlanta, so ATL is the airport I always use.

How about you?

Living in London, my natural choice of airport is LHR, i've flown from LHR more than any other airport. But since LON has 4 major airports serving a huge variety of flights, i could easily end up flying from LTN, STN, LGW.

Well: DTW (1985-1995), IAD, DCA, and BWI (1996-2000), and now PHX (2000-Present). However, the airport that I have been to the most times is still DTW.

For most of my life it was PHL.

For awhile, it was FCO.

Now, it's ORD/MDW.

Currently, MCI is my home airport. When I lived back in the Los Angeles area, I had LAX, ONT, SNA, BUR, and LGB, three of them about the same distance from my house.

My home airport is Detroit(DTW). As crazy as this is going to sound, and although I like the midfield terminal, I am going to miss the Davey terminal.

Dmitry: Did you get a chance to see the new terminal at ALW? I saw it over Christmas. It looks great. Too bad they only have 4 flights a day for such a big building.

Back on topic....

I have had these "home" airports:
TOP
PDT
PHX
PDX
SEA
MFR
JNU
I lived in a small town in Southeast Oregon named Burns. I was half way between BOI and RDM (120 miles to each) so I need to add those, too.

I was born in STR (Stuttgart/Germany) and this has been for about 25 years my homebase for spotting (since i am 12) and later on also my Job-Homebase.
Now I moved to HAJ (Hannover since 2001) a very quiet
Airport but with some good traffic during the exhebitions here. And a lot Russian Aircrafts during the summer season. But STR was deffenitly better.

My first home airport was Teesside (MME/EGNV), as I lived in Darlington, Co. Durham during 1979-1990 & 1994-2001:

My second home airport was Newcastle (NCL/EGNV) from when I lived about 4 miles from it from 1990-1994:

A very short list:

1982-1986 YYC, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
1986-20XX FRA, Frankfurt/Main, Germany

I can also add DUS, Düsseldorf, Germany since it's just as far away as FRA but since I travel more through FRA I'll just stay with it...

The closest airport to me is Worcester, Massachusetts (ORH), but I have never flown out of it. So I guess I would call T.F. Green Airport in Providence, Rhode Island (PVD) my hometown airport. It's terminal is one of the nicesest I've ever seen. I have flown out of it many times.

I started off with SFO.
Then I moved to Alameda, so OAK became my co-home airport along with SFO.
Then, I moved to Maryland, so BWI.
Nowthat I'm in college, BDL is my home away from home airport.
