I would rather fly a 321NEO/LR across the pond than a wide body. Less people on board, and the A32X family cabin is plenty spacious, and certainly on most airlines who will be operating longer 321LR flights.

I wouldn't rather one or the other having flown 757s and all sorts of wide bodies TATL in various classes. Even though the narrow body is more personal and arriving and deplaning is easier, it's nearly impossible to get up and stretch your legs because of the single aisle and lack of center "hallways". So there are pluses and minuses.

M .75 or M. 85 doesn't make much of a difference, unless you fly it for ~7-8 hours. Then it becomes an hour, hurting network and utilization. :beady:

Aircraft like the A320 are optimized for mission profiles of ~2 hours. Good low speed handling, low weight, large fleet commonality.

That is why the cockpit, wings, etc. are shaped the way they are. If Airbus was going for a A320NMA, they could adjust, but it would be a relatively extensive modification. It would probably not even be a real A320 anymore, even if they used the same fuselage. And it would probably be less efficient for shorter flights and more expensive to operate. I did an Airbus NB NMA M.85 concept a while ago using A320 fuselage/ tail and CS nose section.

(Drifting away from the topic a bit, now that the flight has been completed. Wonder where it will fly from JFK, Chicago ? )

I imagine that the 321 plus plus looks very similar keejse.Although they would want 100% cockpit commonality with the 320 family for obvious reasons.I personally have no doubt that this is the a/c that are making Boeing ponder so long and for good reason.
Whether it's called a 322 or a 360 who cares. It may be the former to accentuate commonality or a 360 to accentuate 'newness'.
The key will be the ability to use pip'd existing engines to massively shorten EIS time.
But either way it's becoming clearer that Boeing are trying strongly to differentiate their wide bodied and more capable ( hence 50klbs engines) 797 from the 320 'plus plus'.
Time will tell who is right(er) if both are launched as they well might be.
Further down the line I expect Airbus to accept the old 300/310/330/340/338,9 route has finally had its day.But not for at least 2/3 years giving the 330NEO a full chance to garner as many sales as it can, based on a price/performance basis.
Their MOM will then be positioned just above the 797 in a new X8 formula of some sort.

True, they should have tested CDG - LAX with the A321LR

Interestingly enough, when facing head winds the optimum true airspeed for max range/lowest fuel consumption per distance does in fact increase. And the reverse when facing tail wind. Say max range cruise speed is mach 0,78 in still air. When facing severe head wind the maximum range true airspeed goes up to say mach 0,8 and when facing strong tail wind the max range cruise speed goes down to say mach 0,75.

Correct

Always fly faster into a headwind to reduce
overall flight time and burn

And likewise, slowing a little allows a tailwind to do ‘some of the work for you’
achieving the same or greater groundspeed as planned for a lower burn

Hi Everyone,
I would be curious to compare fees and charges for the widebody and a Single Aisle.

Can someone tell us the followings charges for a 321 Crossing the ATL :
- En route fees CDG => JFK & JFK => CDG
- Landing & Handling fees JFK for an A321
- Landing & Handling fees CDG for an A321
