AIr Europa will increase flights to COR & ASU to daily

Thu May 17, 2018 2:52 pm

Effective June 2019, UX will increase the frequency of its MAD-ASU-COR service to daily (it is currently flown 4x w, will increase to 5x w next month and to 6x w in July). The announcement was made by Mr Diego Garcia, UX Regional Director Americas (and former AR executive) during a presentation held in Cordoba. The airline will also upgauge the equipment from the current A330-200 to the 787-8. Garcia said that the demand for the flight from COR has surpassed UX's expectations, during Q1 2018 it was 20% above the same period in 2017. 75% of the passengers that board in COR have Madrid or onward connections in Europa as their final destination, while 25% descend in Asuncion.

On the contrary BA keeps opening routes.....I could see at least 6 routes working for IB or UX if they had the...planes.

IB DID fly to Córdoba three times per week back in 2010 but it failed miserably.
Maybe the market was not mature enough?
Maybe it was the Airbus 340's fault?

It could have been IB higher operating costs. Maybe the 340 was indeed too much for the route (UX flies smaller more efficient 332 and in a triangle route). Maybe the financial crisis hitting Spain by 2010 didn't help....
Let's see how COR develops with a weak ARS compared to foreign currencies

Nothing wrong with the route itself; LFs were more than acceptable, with low yields. But...This was in 2010-12, pre IAG Iberia, with very high costs, the wrong equipment, the airline itself a financial mess. Cuts have to be done and COR, along with MVD, HAV and others were cut from the network.

UX comes in with a lower cost base, the right equipment and feed both at COR and at ASU, where it is the only game in town if one wants to fly to Europe directly. Looking at COR's airport info, flights are pretty much full every day; the 5th freedom between COR and ASU helps.

I am not sure Argentina's weaker peso will be much of an issue. Argentina is now more affordable with Euros and US Dollars, and for the Argentinian leisure traveler, it is still relatively cheaper to vacation abroad than at home. Argentina's business owners have made sure that is the case.
