Airtran Airways And DC9's Into Pns?!?!

Thu Mar 07, 2002 3:27 am

I was recently checking for flights from LGA to PNS, and was looking specifically at AirTran, mainly because I would be able to fly their new 717's on the ATL - PNS leg. But when I came accross their iteneraries (on OAG.com), I was stunned to find that now all four flights from ATL to PNS are operated by DC9's. To make sure, I double checked at yahoo.com travel section, and they too had DC9's. I don't mind flying the DC9's, but I was looking forward to flying the 717's. When they first started service to PNS from ATL, they mentioned that all flights would be on the 717 (http://www.businesswire.com/webbox/bw.110601/213100015.htm)
When exactly did Airtran pull the 717's off the ATL - PNS flights? and for what reason? When will they go back to all 717's on that route?

Also, does anyone know when LGA will start to see 717 service from ATL? We'll probably be the last ones  Sad

I would go to Airtran's website to verify the aircraft used these flights.

I know how you feel, Im a little dissapointed myself. AirTran added a fourth flight yesterday 3/5 with service to Atlanta from Pensacola. When they added the extra flight they did away with 717. on the route.
AirTran is adding a couple new cities, ie. Rochester and Wichita and from what I here they want to use the 717's on that route.
Just last Friday night I returned from Atlanta and was fortunate to have been on 717, just three days later they switched equipment. In time, they should bring the 717 back, when they acquire more of the type.
Look forward to seeing you in PNS.

yeah... it sucks. I guess they want to promote their "new" arrival cities, so the already established ones that are pretty successful get the older a/c. Oh well.

JHM - Where exactly do you work for Airtran at PNS? Are you living in PNS, where? Next time I come through the airport, I'll try to stop by and say hi!

Jcxp15:
With PNS being an outstation, I do all three duties; work the counter, the gate and the ramp. Today was just my second day, and this week I am working on the ramp, I have been up by the counter these past couple days trying to get every bit on hand training I can with the compter system, in a week or two I should be coming inside and working the counter/gate.
See you around...

Congrats, Micheal on your new job with Airtran! Hope the loads have been good for Airtran at PNS...it'll keep you busy!

I was excited when they announced the fourth daily PNS-ATL flight but then dissappointed to learn we were getting downgraded to the 717. Oh well, on the bright side Airtran has announced they intend to accelerate the 717 delivery and accelerate the DC9 retirement, so the 717's will be back sooner than later.

AirTran starts service to Rochester, New York (ROC) later this month (in March) not sure of exact start date, the crewmembers who will be opening the city were in my training class in Atlanta. They had one extra week of training, where they learned ramp operations the third week at ATL.

Thanks FlyPNS1

Thanks for the message FlyPNS1 =), I am very pleased to be on board with AirTran as well. Today was my third day on, it was a little more challenging today, first inbound flight no.423 was pretty full and both bins
1 and 2 were jammed packed with bags, every one coming in for the weekend. I uploaded outbound flight no. 424 (in the bin) with nearly 100 bags, that was a work out to say the least, but its all good, the mission, team work and to provide the best flying experience to our customers, and when mission is accomplished it makes all the effort worth while, after of course taking a rather long breather.
See you PNS, Michael...

"with nearly 100 bags"

After the catastrophy in January (snow storm) we had a flight come into TOL with over 200 bags on it. 106 Passengers, and both bins were totally packed full. It would have been all good except for the fact we put 106 passengers back on along with 130 bags......That would have to be my most amount of bags I've delt with on a turn. I was tired after that flight...lol

I was looking into the future a little, PNS's new flight is a DC 9, but the rest of the other flights are still 717s. (3 and 1). I wouldn't be surprised if soon they go back to all 717. Don't worry, you'll still be seeing the 717 in PNS, unlike TOL =o/

What's the big deal anyway, the DC-9s will all be gone in about 2-3 years . Then you can fly all the 717s you want.
