LOT launch WAW-LCY

Thu Jun 14, 2018 9:23 am

From 7th January 2019, LOT will fly twice daily WAW-LCY. (Source: LCY twitter)

This is a great addition for me as it will add some nice connection opportunities.

Confirmed on lot.com, EMB-190's ordered for this route.
For random February 2019 dates KRK-WAW-LCY-WAW-KRK round-trip in C starts at ca. 450 Euro.

Wonder if the next step is possibly selling their LHR slots

Why would they do this? They didn’t sell them when they were in the red , so why would they do it when they are in expansion mode?

I agree. LCY is a nice addition for the growing WAW business community and LGW might make better sense for the rest since O&D probably includes a significant chunk of cost-sensitive VFR and with Asia connections LO doesn't compete in quality but in price for the most part. But I could very well see how they would want to hold on to LHR.

Highly doubt it, I heard LHR is performing really well for them. If I am not mistaken it was also on the first MAX routes.

Sooner or later their very quick expansion will catch up with them and/or a downturn in the market or increased fuel prices. LHR slots are one of the rare assets they can leverage and obtain quick cash. Not saying it will happen, but if they are faced with one or more events it could make sense to sell the LHR slots, increase LCY and add another London airport to the mix as a replacement of LHR. Short term though I agree they will keep LHR.

They also for some time served this route with B788.
No conclusion can be offered, for the history recounted above is still unfolding.

why would they sell LHR slots if they're making money there? Not a lot of *alliance connectivity, I guess, but other than that, . . . . (and I do think LOT's hard and soft product have both improved in recent years to the point that they're no worse than anybody else.

Good news for LCY and LOT

LCY is great for business travellers as is so close to the financial districts of Canary Wharf and the City of London.
No doubt they are going after the high yield business travellers... there is a huge Polish community in London.

I wonder if LCY is getting close to capacity at peak times, its opening hours are quite short and the ramp space is limited.

There is expansion underway... not sure if that will be enough to cope with the demand at its peak times.. LCY is also quite busy with Executive jets too...

LCY is also good for getting passengers in connection via WAW.

Some people will be more accepting to connect if flying out of LCY rather than LHR or LGW.

Can’t find the article, but in a polish forum that’s what the director of communications said.

Well this starts in January 2019, and with any other route cuts that might happen that may not be the case. They do fly to 2 airports in couple of cities also.

I wonder if Goldman Sachs have agreed to buy a certain number of seats per year as a way to partly underwrite this route. It would seem to fit their needs well.

For those that don't know, Goldman Sachs has a very large number of staff in Warsaw as a cheaper alternative to people demanding London salaries.

Fares are quite competitive. I was looking at some connections from eastern and southern Europe and they were at around €260. Not too bad for this kind of destination.

They won't, they need Heathrow for the large volumes of passengers. London City is a business airport, all premium demand. They can charge higher prices, but they can't haul large volumes of passengers from there. Heathrow and City are two entirely different markets, so it's good that they serve them both.
