Just wanted to add: shouldn't AC also improve their economy product, by adding PTVs, footrests, etc?

Actually, on my last flight I was pleasantly suprised at the better quality of seats on Air Canada. I flew their new A321 which was immaculate, and in economy there was a footrest and movable headrests. It was good to see, yet the entire seat didn't work for my body. On the way back, I was also suprised by seeing footrests on the 763 which was placed in a good position. AC needs to do this, and this is nice to see. As for PTV's in economy, that may happen down the road, yet if they replace all their economy seats, I think that would be good enough for awhile.

It's good to hear you had a pleasant experience on an AC A321. Some people on flyertalk were actually complaining about comfort on the A321 in Y. The seat pitch is supposedly smaller, don't know if this is true though.

Everytime i fly AC i end up with a crappy seat. I flew a 320 from YYZ to YOW and the seat was awful and the plane was dirty on the inside...
And secondly its about time they did PTV's. some of their a/c already have provision for PTV in thier seats, all they need is the 6in screen, the A330s and A340s especially, as they already have the provisions.

And i think its about time they revamped their cabin staff that come from Montreal... worst ones going i reckon

PTVs are worth it for the high-yield passengers up front, but are they worth it as much for the low-yield passengers further back? (Perhaps it would be on long-haul flights; less likely on short domestic hops.)

The best bet is to focus on the basics that people will want to come back for: a clean, safe, comfortable ride from A to B, with on-time arrivals, friendly staff and baggage that arrives with you.

What about the seat was awful? Air Canada has among the nicest interiors I've been in. I haven't flown on their A320's though, so I don't know if it's something peculiar to those aircraft. Also, you were on a YYZ to YOW flight, which is usually around 35 minutes. Many flights of that length in other routes use much less comfortable aircraft, so there's no reason to complain to be seated in an A320 with 32" of legroom.

I've flown Air Canada's A340 in Coach between Toronto and Tokyo. I'm sorry, but I did not see anything special about the pitch in Coach - its jus as awful as on any other carrier. Their audio selection is great, but it's the new millenium, and if United can provide PTVs on international flights on their new generation aircraft (777s, etc), then so can Air Canada. I peered into the J class cabin and it seemed to be well-appointed.

I flew both the A320 and the A319 YYZ-MIA-YYZ and I found both aircraft to be fine, typical aircrafts. Nothing special, nothing wrong....seatpitch was fine, leg room standard, clean and overall we got what we paid for. The only thing is...I will say it time and time again....they have to update the F/A's ...theyare toooooo OLD,

I find AC's hospitality seats nice. Where else but on AC amongst the majors can you get a 32'' seat pitch?

Aamd11, I've flown YOW-YYZ on 320s lots of times, and the seats are always fine. Were you maybe on an ex-CP 320 with navy blue seats because many of those are worn out? PS: I live near Manotick too!

Well, I would guess that AA has superior legroom in coach, but other than that, and I'm sure a small handful of other carriers, Air Canada seems to be among the roomiest. I flew on their A330 and was very impressed. More legroom there than on Air France, British Airways or Lufthansa, or at least that's the impression I got. Their A320's would be standard with other carriers though, and that is quite roomy for what it is.

I fly to Europe a few times a year, and the best seats I`ve had were on an ex- Canadian 767. Air Canadas 747-400 are nothing special, the last one had no laptop power in business class. The A340s aren`t much better, especially if you get the bulkhead. Otherwise service is good, food is ok,etc. I wouldn`t mind trying the beds, though. Any ideas on which aircraft or routes will get them?

You're assuming that 100% of the economy pax are low yield pax. How about the 30 or so percent who bought a full fare economy ticket? What about the pax who upgraded to business from a cheap economy fare or bought a consolidator's business class fare? Not all economy pax are low yield and similarly not all business class pax are high yield.

They should put PTVs in longhaul aircraft (not the A321/A320/A319/CRJ). If one of these aircraft happens to be on a domestic hop then you're lucky, if not then it's only a domestic flight. But on flights like YYZ-NRT or YVR-CLK, both around 14 hours flying time, PTVs do come in handy.

Hi,

It seems very intersting. But, is it a rumor or is it true?

Which plane will get first? New A340-500/600 or the old crappy 747-400?

Hi I flown on AC from YVR-CLK... The Seats were fine Seat Pitch roomy And the food Immaqulate but the Part that really bothered me was the fact that the entertainment was despirately lacking what CX has. on AC i watched good movies ( not enough) but the short feature was just :P terrible... I just Wish AC Would catch up on things!
