No Smoking/fasten Seat Belt Signs

Sat Mar 09, 2002 12:12 am

I have noticed that on most Midwest Express DC-9's that the seat belt signs are on the ceiling above the aisle (look at the picture I took) (copy and paste the address)

On 3 other DC-9's they are under the overhead compartments. On the MD-80's they are also under the overhead compartments.

Also on some -10's they are only in the front. by row 1 on the ceiling in the aisle. They are the ones that say
" NO SMOKING " "FASTEN SEAT BELTS"

Thanks for the replies!!!

The original signage that the DC-9 was built with was the -10 config that you mentioned last. These signs were used on a/c built with hatracks.

The MD-80's and some -30's have the signs installed in the PSU's that came from the factory.

The signs in the ceiling were part of a kit installed on aircraft that got later overhead bins similar to the MD-80, but still used the old DC-9 PSU's (Built by Heath-Tecna or HITCO).

This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.

DC-9s that came from different sources have different configurations, as mentioned above. At AirTran our Nines came from Delta, KLM and THY through various routes and then were modified by ValuJet. We have to remember to look where the signs are on the aircraft we're on before we begin our safety demonstrations to avoid pointing at nothing.
I work for Southwest, but the views expressed are my own and do not necessarily represent those of Southwest.
