South African Airways suspends night flights to Zimbabwe amid fears of election violence

South African Airways has temporarily halted its night flights to Zimbabwe amid fears that violence could erupt there.

Citing safety concerns, the airline said the night flights would be suspended until March 17.

South African Airways has 11 flights a week to the capital of Harare and to the northwestern tourist center of Victoria Falls.
Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

Well, it could also be a economical policy, both the Zim$
and the rand is weak at the moment and tourist prefer
to go to Zambian side on Victorian falls because of uncertainties in Zimbabwe. I wonder how much the insurance would cost to fly to Harare nowadays?

JOHANNESBURG
SAA reinstates night-stops in Zimbabwe
Posted Sun, 10 Mar 2002

South African Airways (SAA) on Saturday reinstated its night-stops between Johannesburg and Zimbabwe due to a last-minute demand by passengers.

In a statement, SAA said the reinstatement was with immediate effect.

SAA on Friday temporarily suspended all nightly flights to Zimbabwe ahead of the country's presidential elections.

The airlines chief executive officer, Andre Viljoen, said because of low passenger demand for seats, SAA took a decision two months ago to suspend night stops between the two cities.

"Now because of the of last-minute increase in the demand for seats between Johannesburg and Harare and Harare and Johannesburg, we are reintroducing the night stops," he said.

"SAA safety and security department, South African Police and Zimbabwean security officials, have assessed the situation in Zimbabwe and are comfortable that there are no security risks," he said.- Sapa

Hey SR3496, since when were the elections free and fare in Zimbabwe? Since 1980 to now 2002, that's 22 years, they've had the same president. Do you think they all love him that much ?
Anyway, if they riot then there will be nothing left standing. The tourists should just go to Zambia and so should the rest of the people who have their work in Zimbabwe, just start fresh in Zambia, it's so much better. Did you know that Zambia offers the new investors up to 5 years tax free?
If they can't go to the south, then go to the north.

Konstantinos:
I know how the situation in Zimbabwe is. The unemployed rate is over 50% at the moment. So just imagine how millions of Zim-people will move to Zambia and start fresh! Simply impossible.
Zimbabwe had a strong economy and now it's all run down (thank you, Mr R.G.Mugabe  Pissed ). A change is needed in Zimbabwe, everybody knows.

btw:
MDC = More Diesel Coming
Zanu-PF = Petrol Finished
That's what the majority of the people think in Zimbabwe!
