USAirways' New FF Perk - Space Travel

Wed Mar 13, 2002 2:57 am

For 10 million FF miles (that's 400 trips around the world, or tens of thousnads of LGA-PIT trips), USAirways FFs can get a 90-minute, SUB-orbital space flight in a rocket spaceship. Methinks that this is not going to save USAirways.

"Danger Will Robinson"

USAirways should really concentrate on manned space flight that is about 35,000 feet above the ground.

Well if anyone does all those flights, they've 20-30 years to wait for their suborbital flight.
Stick with BA and get the next best thing to suborbital flight, in clear conditions you'll get to see the curve of the Earth!

The nearspace flights begin in 2004 (They use a suborbital vehicle, not an actual orbiting spacecraft).
Someday, we'll look back at this, laugh nervously, and then change the subject.

Does anybody else see this as a way for US to get rid of some serious debt to frequent flier members who could otherwise use their miles to get hundreds of free tickets?

Pan Am sold tickets for space travel too. If US wanted to get rid of major ff debt , they would just file bankruptcy

Don't hold your breath for any 2004 suborbital flights, remember the X-Prize, the winner would be the first to demonstrate a vehicle by carrying 3 people at leat 50 miles up, and do it twice in two weeks.
The front-runner was due to fly in 2001.
Been very quiet on that front, at least several competing teams have run of of money.
