Who Gets Leftover E-PLUS Seats On UA?

Wed Mar 13, 2002 3:51 am

OK, here's a question for any UA CSAs who might be lurking out there; I know that Economy Plus seats are assigned in advance to the upper ranks of Mileage Plus members, full-fare coach ticket buyers, etc.; I'm curious if seats in E-Plus are available at departure time, are they ever made available to other Y passengers -- such as regular old Mileage Plus folks who are just shy of Premier status -- who request them?

I didn't tell you this.

But official company policy is that 20 min prior to dept, if someone wants those Econ plus seats give them as a advertising measure. We can't give away the middles though unless absolutely nessasary, thats a courtesy to the Premier and higher who sit there. This is what I do. But I know plenty of agents who WON'T seat someone in there unless they are Premier of higher or they have a full fare tkt. I disagree w/ that. Those agents can't stand a Priceline tkt passenger getting those seats. They think its unfair to the premier passengers, in a way they are correct. Its up to the gate agents though. And don't ask the tkt counter they will tell you to go to the gate.

If you don't ask you never get them, but don't ask on a full flight it won't happen.

Another question... I am Star Gold status (with AC), am I automatically assigned an E+ seat, or do I have to specifically request it at the gate?

Is UAL finished with retrofitting b777, 747 &767´s with E-plus?

If I were UA I would sell E-plus it in a more structured way, but perhaps they start to do so if all aircraft are retrofitted...

cheers

I have been moved to econ plus due to frequent flyer status just shy of Premier, I didn't even ask, the nice agent just handed me a econ-plus assignment and sent me on my way with a smile. This was post 9/11 too. It was on a not quite full 757 going from IAD to BOS. On an aside, the flight before had been on one of the last 727-200 flights, which was awesome.

United is done retrofitting the 747 and 763 aircraft. The Boeing 767-200 is raising questions about its United future. That, and economics are plaging any 767-222 update. As of right now, they will not be recieving economy plus.

The non-ER 777s have economy plus while the ERs do not. All of the Hawaii 777s have it, and some of the 777s that fly trans-atlantic flights have it. The Pacific and longer ranged 777s do not currently have economy plus.

With the 737, currently none of the shuttle planes have economy plus. I am hoping that as more of these come out of HMV that they leave with the standard mainline 737 seating of 8 in first and 96 or 112 in coach. This would equip them with economy plus. Currently, I do not know if that is in the works.

Afay1 thats probably typical if the flight isn't full. Many of us will just give the customer the seats if all the premiers and premier execs have them already.

One thing that has cropped up in the past is having to close Econ plus and move everyone to the rear for weight and balance. Ususally only on 737's with less that 20 people checked in. This has caused quite a problem when a 1k gets on and hes in the back and the first 11 rows are empty. But what can you do? ?:-l

I have given econ plus for those pax who dont have premier status. maybe a tall pax who needs the leg room, an older couple who may not walk very well. you make the call at departure time. most premiers never complain they have to sit next to a man that isnt a premier. my guess is they dont even talk in flight, who cares what your satus is anyway? it's a gas to fly.

UAL777contrail the issue isn't that the permier has someone who is not permier next to them, your right they probably don't talk. No they get miffed if the middles are taken.

Why don't all of you just fly AA? Isn't the More Room Throughout Coach same as E-Plus on UA?

Bkkair, good question! In fact I almost always fly AA on business (but I cannot accure mileage -- long story) and MRTC is quite nice. However I believe UA's E-Plus has slightly greater seat pitch.

Just a wild guess but I bet that someone on this forum has the exact figures handy...

AA is about 34"-35" and i believe E+ is about 38" seat pitch

I understand that all the enhaced economy cabins are more than just seat pitch. On a recent BA flight the seats were much wider, there was more entertainment and a more comfortable seat that reclined way back.

UA E+ is just an economy seat and economy service with added legroom of 35-36". BA is different in that it sells World Traveller Plus as a 4th class.

AA MRTC varies. Sometimes it's an extra 1/2" sometimes it's BARELY an INCH of extra legroom.. that's it.

Economy Plus is 34 to 36" seat pitch. 38" seat pitch is First Class...
