United Airlines honors late president at George Bush airport closing gate C41

Fri Dec 07, 2018 5:17 am

Nice tribute by United at gate C-41 (I am told they closed the gate two days, Wed and Thurs, though articles say Wednesday only), along with the flowers by his stature in terminal C

I was supposed to fly into IAH Wed and had to canx due to a sick family member so sorry I missed it.

It was a very nice - and classy - gesture. George H.W. Bush was revered in Houston, and UA's recognition of that will surely be appreciated.

Really sorry for the silly question but why Gate C-41? Why no other gate?

i’m not trying to flame, but i don’t understand why the tribute at the gate was necessary. perhaps UA wanted to have their own tribute instead of sharing one with the entire airport at the statue? 41’s statue in IAH is fantastic and a much better location tham a gate for a single, central tribute.

The statue is in an alcove between two retail shops directly across from the terminal C TSA checkpoint. People walk past it all day and some never notice it. Anyone passing C41 will definitely see the memorial .

Indeed a fantastic tribute by United well done to them for doing so it was very fitting.

Although I've had my photo taken outside the White House with the usual life size cut out of the President but on a personal note President G.W.Bush was the only US President that I've ever seen in real life after he traveled on a Transatlantic voyage on the Cunard Line flagship RMS Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to New York in 2014, a voyage that himself and his wife Barbara had always wanted to take and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience as did the staff onboard the liner :-)

Although I did see The 'Donald' Trump many years ago on one occasion at a gala event in New York aboard the former Cunard liner QE2 but I didn't take much notice as it was in 1983 long before he was even relevant plus I was only 18yo at the time.
