The New Orleans brand still has a huge head start over some of these newer, flashier, hipster filled cities. Also, agreed concerning not being a perfect proxy for air service. Some markets like Flagstaff are most likely dominated by auto or rail traffic with most of the visitors initially arriving in PHX or LAS.

Looking at the country profiles...we show up for the UK. Quick math puts UK visitors at 206 per day in 2017.

I'd imagine that number has gone way up, in the advent of a nonstop to the UK... albeit a pricey one.

I would point out the relative lack of formerly common charter ops since the advent of [email protected] though.

Airport used to frequently have TUI, Thomas Cook, Monarch, etc flying in for cruises and the like, several times per year. I understand that the latter's gone, but I'm surprised that the cruises and ensuing charters haven't been anywhere near as common as they used to be. I figured if anything, they'd increase, as UK folk become more and more familiar with MSY as a travel option. Especially since Thomas Cook still heavily promotes NOLA-originating Caribbean cruises (usually via cnnx on B6 to their own metal).
I myself, suspect a more prosaic motive... ~Thranduil

Looks great - amazing progress.
I posted this in another thread, a press briefing in Bahamas. We could see a new carrier at MSY if things work out..

That would be a nice get, especially like the Bahamas since they have customs preclearance there so makes it nice to basically be domestic when you land in the USA

13,122,762 passengers in 2018 to be exact. http://www.flymsy.com/Files/Newsletter/AnotherRecord-BreakingYearofPassengerTrafficatNewOrleansAirport.pdf

The airport finished the year as the 38th busiest in the nation. MSY was positioned between OAK and RDU. I will post a full ranking of the top 50 airports when BWI, IAD, DCA, MDW, ORD, CLT, and DAL report their 2018 numbers.

Here is how our TATL routes compared to all other TATL routes from peer FAA defined medium hub airports in August and YTD.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pUim6zLou2yi0OrZXam_VbjP4piD9X6G1bGOSez4ODs/edit?usp=sharing

August-
MSY-LHR ranked 21st out of 34 routes in pax count falling between IB's OAK-BCN and DE's PIT-FRA routes.
MSY-FRA ranked 31st out of 34 routes in pax count falling between DY's OAK-OSL and FI's MCI-KEF routes.
MSY-FRA ranked 12th out of 34 routes for load factor falling between WW's STL-KEF and FI's ANC-KEF routes.
MSY-LHR ranked 30th out of 34 routes for load factor falling between WWs PIT-KEF and FI's CLE-KEF routes.

YTD-
MSY-LHR ranked 10th out of 36 routes in pax count falling between EI's BDL-DUB and DY's OAK-ARN routes.
MSY-FRA ranked 31st out of 36 routes in pax count falling between DE's AUS-FRA and FI's MCI-KEF routes.
MSY-FRA ranked 3rd out of 36 routes for load factor falling between DY's OAK-BCN and DI's OAK-LGW routes.
MSY-LHR ranked 23rd out of 36 routes for load factor falling between WW's CLE-KEF and BA's SJC-LHR routes.

How do I pull this info for small hubs? Curious about SWF and PVD Norwegian performance.

I get it from transtats.bts.gov. Go to the aviation section on the left hand menu and then you will find a link to download international data for all carriers.

It was much needed. The current terminal serves the purpose of moving passengers, but it is terribly outdated and showing signs of age. Personally, looking forward to my first flight out of the new terminal in June. I will absolutely be posting pics.

I know a few people who work for major airlines at MSY and to this date, all the documentation and info given from the airport points to a May 15th opening date. The airlines are expecting it to open on that date. Just FYI.

From the latest progress pictures I've seen, the May 15th opening looks like a done deal. Main terminal and concourses are basically complete other than vendor/TSA build outs which are ongoing. The latest schedule has building certificate of occupancy issued by April 9th.

Again, I don’t think every single vendor will be open on that day, but the terminal should be ready 5/15. I’d give it to perhaps mid June before all of the restaurants are built out and opened, but I think most of them should be ready to go.

Employee training in the new terminal starts in mid April.

Yesterday's board meeting approved about $6.5M more in change orders. I wonder if those are still tenant build-outs or something else. Wouldn't expect to see too many changes less than three months out.

Any word on if they will use members of the general public to test baggage, security, etc prior to opening? That would be fun to do.
