Bmi, the day BA decide to provide a proper long haul service for any part of the UK not within the M25 circle, I'll taxi past the spotters park at MAN in your namesake on the way to 06L and I'll moon through the window.

I think my dignity is safe for a long while to come  Insane

But heck, there's no harm in hoping !!!

I've just checked the Glasgow spotters guide and BA 084, a 744 (to/from Vancouver) did arrive at some point today, however no word on why!

I just saw an advertisement in a local paper for " Direct Boeing 747 flights to Orlando this summer from Glasgow "
Any idea who is operating these flights, likely to be Air Atlanta , can't think of anyone else who would operate such flights

It will probably be European Aviation and they're doing flights from LGW, MAN, GLA and EDI (assuming you mean the Travel City Direct ads). I'm pretty certain they are doing it in place of American Trans Air.

The 5 B747-200's that EAL have bought from British Airways arent going to be used for passanger service, they are gonna be for the F1 Team.
As for Glasgow-Orlando...wouldnt that be a 767 or MD-11?

There is only 1 for the Formula 1 teams and the advert specifically mentioned 747s as the slogan is "Florida on a Jumbo"!

The other 747's are definitely for general passenger charters. they are not all for F1 Teams. I don't think I would like to go in an old BA 742. The Florida flights advertisement said they had inflight entertainment, maybe 1970's style big screen projectors, I can't imagine seatback PTV's !

So was it a BA 747-400 at GLA or not?

BA084 (YVR - LHR) was diverted to YFB (Iqaluit, North west territories) due to a medical emergency.

It then had to down in GLA to pick up a new crew as the original crew were out of hours.

And the runway at GLA is perfectly adequate for 747s and has been for about 25 years now. They are frequent visitors
