AUS-DFW and DFW-AUS are among them I think. Tons of flights each day.

SYD-MEL probably WAS...until AN collapsed, there were upwards of 50 flights each way a day. There are still about 30 odd a day each way.

By city, not airport, I believe it is Miami-New York. 82 daily flights. (Los Angeles to San Francisco has 59; Dallas to Houson also has a ton). By airport, I have always been told it was CGH (Sao Paulo Congonhas) to SDU (Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont), but that is "only" 43 dailies.

If you're talking air corridor, I think it is San Francisco to Los Angeles. I counted out 200 flights between the three San Francisco airports to the four LA airports.
SW had 30 flights from OAK to LAX, UA had nearly that many flights from SFO to LAX. They also flew nearly hourly flights from each of those to the other major airports.
It seems that every flight from the SW terminal in Oakland is going to some airport in LA.
I know they are lot of flights between HNL and OGG as well. I also know that the Osaka to Tokyo route is supposedly has the most pasengers in the world, but they have a lot of wide bodies.

I would guess between the cities of Houston and Dallas
to include DFW, DAL to IAH, HOU.

This is the most travelled route in Texas and one the busiest in the USA

Continental, Southwest, and American all HQD at these airports. SOuthwest runs HOU-DAL almost every half hour, plus a few IAH-DAL. Continental runs IAH to DFW and DAL. AMerican runs DFW to IAH and HOU.

What about the number of flights between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo? Somwhere around 80 flights between the two cities around of which are 36 are TAM A319s flying SDU-CGH and 16 VASP B737-300s flying the same route.

In Europe the busiest citypair is probably MAD-BCN with 73 flights on weekdays, followed by ROM-MIL with approx. 55 flights on weekdays and followed by AMS-LON with "only" 50 flights on weekdays.

I think ARN-GOT (or STO-GOT) is among the ten or five top in Europe.

If we are talking about city routes, It has to be the LA to San Francisco route. Even with just the two big airports SFO-LAX is about 40.
BTW, What route has the most competitors?
On the same corridor, I can think of 6 different airlines (I probably missing some).

just for info here are some numbers for
the routes of Houston to Dallas

Southwest Runs 32 flights from Hou to Dal
and 29 from Dal to Hou Non-stop weekedays

Southwest also runs 6 flights from IAH to DAL weekdays nonstop and back

Delta Runs 4 flights from HOU to DFW and 4 Flights from IAH to DFW and back weekdays

Continental runs 19 Daily from IAH to DAL/DFW
10 to DFW and 9 to DAL and back weekdays

American runs 4 daily from HOU to DFW weekdays
and 8 from IAH to DFW weekdays

I am sure there are some flights I missed but this is what came up on the search.

so there is a total of ~77 daily flights from Houston to Dallas and 75 from Dallas to Houston

I would definitely have to say LA-SF. Checking for tomorrow, I count about 140 SFO/OAK/SJC-LAX/ONT/BUR flights. That pales in comparison to MIA/FLL/PBI-ISP/JFK/LGA/EWR.

Guys, thanks for all your replies, but i have do admit that when a i asked the route with the most number of flights i ment a route between two airports, such as DFW-IAH or MAD-BCN, not between city's.

Well i've been researching on that, and i found out that between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, SDU-CGH, there are on weekdays nearly 120 flights and vice-versa.

I don't have all the details about number, but i'll look it ut for it and will post here soon.

http://www.oag.com shows 84 flights from SDU to CGH tomorrow, 18 March. Yup, I doubt that any other airport-pair can match that.

64 from LAX to SAN daily...but that was pre-9/11, so it's probably down to about 50/55 now.

What about HND-Osaka Itami?

60 between LON and NYC, wowoowwowo!

Its more like 50 when its airports, but thats still high considering its all widebodies!

108 between LHR and CDG Big grin, I'm not even going to bother LON-PAR... jeee whizz!

LHR-AMS is about 90, but these figures do include some codesharing, so its more like 75, and 95 for LHR-CDG which is still high!

Anything else?

What's interesting is that if maglev trains capable of 500 km/h becomes economically viable a lot of these busy air routes won't be so busy anymore, since the ability of a maglev train to go downtown to downtown will end up being faster than going out to the departing airport, taking the flight and going from the arriving airport back to town.

Indeed, the success of Eurostar and the TGV route from Paris to Marseille via Lyon has already cut a lot of shorter flight air traffic out of CDG and ORY. In can see the day that SYD-MEL flights will be cut back as the high-speed maglev line between Sydney and Melbourne will allow passengers to travese between these two cities in under 2 hours.

EGGD, I don't know where you get your numbers but the number of flights (excluding codeshares) on AMS-LON is higher than PAR-LON (50 compared to 36).

I think nothing can beat the CGH-SDU shuttle as BCN-MAD "only" comes to 73 departures.

Alas, we are both wrong AWACS. For June 7, the OAG lists 86 one-way flights from Houston to Dallas.

I actually neglected to count this market the first time and put the BOS-WAS number there by mistake.

49 flights today between MEL and SYD on Qantas, Virgin and United...I did not count the code shared flights (Qantas, British Airways, American) but did count legs that are part of international flights since Qantas can transport these passangers between MEL and SYD.

Well, i guess i found the answer for my question?

SDU-CGH shuttle holds the most number of flights between to single airports.

Other ones that come a little behind are:

BCN-MAD
SFO-LAX
MEL-SYD
ORD-LGA

etc.....

Thanks to you all.....

NYC-San Fran (incl. SJC): 30 (3 from SJC)
Miami-Chicago (incl. PBI): 30 (1 from PBI)
Miami-NYC: 82 (incl. PBI and ISP)

Here are some major international city pairs:

Miami-Nassau: 54
London-Paris: 52
Toronto-NYC: 32
London-NYC: 26

Mind you, for passengers carried, SYD-MEL is in the top 5 because until AN collapsed, everyone except Virgin Blue was flying pretty much 1/2 hourly 762/763.

QF flies 1/2 hourly 763's, and often 1/4 hourly interval flights with additional 738's/734's.
M88, 722, 732, 733, 734, 73G, 73H, 742, 743, 744, 752, 762, 763, 772, 773, 77W, 320, 332, 333, 345, 388, DH8, SF3 - want

Could be LON-DUB - infact I am sure I have seen it written as the busiest city pairs (I think Airways Mag?) will double check!
I counted 66 for this Friday, excluding codeshares. BA/EI/FR using LHR/LGW/STN/LCY/LTN.

For sure SDU-CGH.

Varig has flights between Rio and Sao Paulo every 30 minutes during the week, and a little less on the weekend. Also we have, TAM,VASP and GOL (newer) flying this same route.

Leej,
DUB-LON is Europe's busiest route in terms of passenger numbers but not flights - that's BCN-MAD I think. Strange the way the number of people travelling on the DUB-LON route is much greater than the population of the Rep. of Ireland itself.
