Go Fly Winter 02/03 Destinations

Tue Mar 19, 2002 10:58 pm

Will they add back some Business/Leisure destinations such as Madrid and Lisbon from STN?

Or move aircraft to other possible new bases such as PRG, SOU and NCL?

They seem to currently have a lot of aircraft and summer leisure destinations.

Talking of summer destinations, anyone know why Rekyjavik is not back for summer 2002? I always thought this was such a good seller. Seems strange...

They aren't doing overnights to IBZ, they are day or late evening flights.

I think the reasons for this include servicing the new bases at EMA and BRS, domestic services and W routes such BRS-PRG-EMA-PRG-BRS.

KEF went, although a very popular destination, because landing and handling fee were too expensive to make the operation viable.

I hope they open a few more routes from NCL. BCN would be a good route from NCL.

Shame about KEF, I've also wanted to visit Iceland, but their fares weren't always that much cheaper than a student fare with Icelandair...I can undestand the bit about airport fees, I hear a beer is £3.50 over there!-thats too much.

Shame also about LIS-another interesting city to visit.

I would like to see some flights to the Balkan coastline-it still costs a bomb to fly there, unless you take Ryanair to Ancona, and sail across to Croatia...

I suppose a lot of it depends on where the competitors fly to.

How about Vienna, Budapest, Salzburg (ok, Ryanair fly there too), Warsaw or Ljbuljana? (all very nice for a short break)...

Hello,

Any chance of seeing Go anywhere in Switzerland? I presume they won't touch Ireland again after last time around....

Prepare for Warsaw, Krakow and Istanbul ex STN in the future. The CAA has granted Go the licence for these routes.

Teahan

Go have already been seen in Switzerland, they have operated weekend charters to GVA and also scheduled services to ZRH, which didn't last long probably due to the £20 Tax instead of £5 to Europe.

Will they use a B733 to IST from STN or is that too far?

Where can I find licences held by airlines?

Thanks.

UK airline licences are available from:

http://www.caa.co.uk/cpg/airline_licensing/airline_regs/default.asp?page=543
You are 100 times more likely to catch a cold on a flight than an average person!

Is it possible that STN-IST-STN could be an overnight service? or is Istanbul airport closed at night?

Richardw,

Well the last time they wanted to fly "proper" flights to Switzerland (once daily Geneva, twice daily to Zurich) easyJet brought them to court and won.

I was wondering if Go would try again.

Please expand on what you mean by £20 tax instead of £10 to Europe. Switzerland is Europe, unless you mean the EU. EasyJet are doing pretty well on London to Switzerland flights and there are currently no regular Stansted to Switzerland flights.

Capt.Picard

Ryanair fly to Trieste which is VERY close to Croatia-no sailing needed.

If you look at easyjet.com and check the pricing to ZRH a £20 tax will be shown on the outward part of the journey

Wednesday 23 October 2002, flight 805 departs London Gatwick at 18:10, arrives Zurich at 20:55 web fare 15.90 GBP (phone fare 18.40 GBP)
total cost of your selection
The total cost of your selection is calculated as follows:
OUTBOUND
airfare per person 15.90 GBP
plus TAX per person 20.00 GBP
plus insurance and security charge per person 1.60 GBP
total per person 37.50 GBP
GRAND TOTAL
total for 1 passenger 37.50 GBP

In the above example the tax is more tthan the flight!

With GVA

Wednesday 23 October 2002, flight 974 departs London Gatwick at 16:00, arrives Geneva at 18:40 web fare 30.90 GBP (phone fare 33.40 GBP)
total cost of your selection
The total cost of your selection is calculated as follows:
OUTBOUND
airfare per person 30.90 GBP
plus TAX per person 5.00 GBP
plus insurance and security charge per person 1.60 GBP
total per person 37.50 GBP
GRAND TOTAL
total for 1 passenger 37.50 GBP

The outward part shows a tax of £5.

Richardw,

Thanks for your reply Richardw, I never realised that extra tax to non-eu countries because I always check flights to GVA.

Both Geneva and Basel (a little more than an hour from Zurich) can be considered as EU airports since they both have French and Swiss arrivals and departures areas.

Yep £20 tax to ZRH, is it likely that the UK government will change this in the forthcoming budget?

Would go need a licence to fly to Cyprus? This has been rumoured as a possible easyJet base.

Southampton is in the south of England and is an airport with a direct raillink, domestic low cost business flights to EDI and GLA may be viable.

NCL, Newcastle north east England.

Prague, Czechslovakia or Czech Republic

By738, if EMA had not been chosen as the new Go base, they would have went for GLA I've heard.
