Whats Working As CFI Like?

Thu Mar 21, 2002 3:27 am

Im hoping to study for CPL/CFI/MEI next summer and would like to know what the job is like. Im aiming to be a pilot but it is not the job I had in mind, although it is a necessary part of buiding hours towars ATPL, and there are some jobs in Instructing compared to charter pilot or banner towing. i would like to know what the job entails. What are the good point and what are the ba points? Are you a flight instructor? Im from the UK and will have to train abroad for financial reasons and Im in the final process of organising my training. The difficult part is that as I will have a FAA/SA/AUS licence, I will only be able to fly in the respective country. Then I heard that American schools only hire American people, South Africans are employed in SA an so on. Is this true? Thanks for your help,

I've learned alot from instructing, mainly how to get through different kinds of people. It's hard work though, and I want a job where I can fly more myself. It's very rewarding in the sense that it allows you to network with people who can help you land a job, but sometimes the liability worries me. Instructors can be held responsible for the actions of their students, even if the instructor isn't aboard.
