Largest U.S. aircarrier

What is the largest U.S. airline in terms of number of planes and/or number of passengers? Thanks.

AA is the largest in terms of planes (its all of those MD-80s!).
DL is the largest in terms of passengers.
UA is the largest in terms of profits (I think).

UAL is the LARGEST of them all!!!
Flyf15 stats are right though!

Delta carried the most passengers (over 100 million last year I think) and I'm pretty sure that UAL is the largest in terms of planes with around 630. I hope someone can correct me if I am wrong...

You both hit it. For years, UAL has had the largest number of aircraft.

United. no question. proposed 530 planes by 2003 or something like that. I believe that number includes United Express and Shuttle by United

Hi all! I have heard that Delta (last year) carried more passengers than any other US airline.

American Airlines has 649 aircraft (info is on their web site)
and american eagle has well over 200 aircraft.
I've flown on 9V-SPK.
