Why Doesn't WN Codeshare W/ Others?

America West/Continental, Northwest/KLM, American/Reno (back in the day), why doesn't SW codeshare?

Codeshare is a favorite among hub and spoke carriers, of which we all know, WN is not. The whole point of the hub and spoke existence is to get people to and from their hub: more codeshares = more people to the hub.

This can be a problem with the hub and spokes: they've become so mesmerized by their hubs that they can't stop creating alliances, codeshares, FF mile benefits, just to enhance the hub. They see enhancing the hub as the key to their success.

Since WN sees point to point as a better solution, they don't need to get help from others to feed their flights.

kind regards,

I would think one of the main reasons, besides the one pointed out by Rouge, is that the fare base is so different from that of the "majors".

Southwest does not even interline with other carriers, as they always saw it as something that costs more than it delivers (mainly that it would slow their turnaround times, I believe). So why would they codeshare, which would involve even more "entanglements" with other carriers that would also not fit in with the WN way of doing things? After all, IIABDFI (If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It).

Waaaaay back in the day, ALL the other carriers were doing everything they could to stomp the life out of the "little airline that clould". Why the heck would they try to codeshare with any of them as they were entangled in court battles for their very survival against these massive airlines just to run a three plane airline with their own special brand of service???? Guess it's pretty obvious they didn't need anybody else to lean on to become a success, while many of those 'code share' carriers who tried to squash WN are out of business.
