SFO-DTW...... 747?

Mon Mar 25, 2002 6:50 am

Are there any airlines that fly sfo-dtw using 747 or 777?
I have a claustrophobic wife so need a widebody

AA will when they switch RDU-LGW to the 777. They fly SFO-DFW-RDU-LGW and back. Right now it is on a 762.

I think all the widebodies are gone from the SFO-DTW route... Check nwa.com for their flight info and schedules... they have the only nonstop service between SFO and DTW.

You aren't going to be able to get from SFO-DTW on all widebodies.

NW isn't operating and widebodies at all to either DTW or MSP anymore, so its not possible even with a connection. NW is running a 757 between SFO-DTW, I'd take that one over the A320's.

AA is running a few 767 flights between SFO-ORD, but then you'd have to connect onto something smaller either an MD-80 or F-100 for the short hop from ORD-DTW. Its a real short flight so that may not be too bad.

UA runs a ton of widebodies from SFO-ORD. A 747-400 a ton of 777's, a couple 767's. They run mostly 737's and A320's ORD-DTW, a maybe a 757.

You're best be to be on mostly widebodies is United. You can definetely get a 747 or 777 from SFO-ORD, which is the bulk of the flying time. You'll have to take a narrowbody on the short hop over to DTW.

If you want all widebodies, I'd go with DL. YOu can have a widebody from SFO to ATL and then ATL-DTW there is at least a single 767 on that route. Its a bit out of the way, but it might work for you.

The only domestic widebody service right now is hub to hub flying as well as some SEA, LAX and pHX flights. Of course, HNL too.

Take Amtrak from DTW to SFO! Then you can really see the country plus cross the Rockies and the Sierra mountain ranges in style......on a train!

Thanks for all the input.
I id consider Amtrak an option even after a horrendously slow run from DTW-ORD (cities, not airports!) but have you seen the cost. I could buy a plan for what they want to charge

You could rent a car and drive from DTW to ORD (approx 275 miles) and then catch one of the several UAL 777 or B767 flights to SFO.
