Lufthansa A300

Mon Mar 25, 2002 7:54 am

I will be flying an A300 for the first time on Friday on a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Berlin. I was just wondering what the A300 is like. I've actually never flown an Airbus aircraft, and I'm looking forward to it.

Pretty nice aircraft. Although all of LH's A300 have been in the air for a while, they are all in a pretty good shape, inside and out. Inside they have grey leather seats, nothing special, just very businesslike.
Try to get a windowseat as the landing at TXL is impressive, sometimes you can even spot the Reichstag and get a good overview of Berlin.
I like the fact that LH is using these big birds for relatively short flights!
Have fun, and enjoy Berlin. Great city!

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it'll be fun. What side of the aircraft is best for that landing in berlin?

Hi!

I never flew LH A300's but I flew twice with AZ and AF. The plane looks very stable in the air and it's a wide body with a nice look. Don't forget that the A300 is one of the most safe airliners built until now. I think you'll like it but like one of our fellows said the LH A300 are getting quite old.

I've been about 5 times on a A300 flying within germany!
The A300 is great on short haul, extremly powerful take-off and a extraordinary climb rate!
Enjoy your ride!

no guarantee, but try to get a windowseat on the left side, that is, seat A, does work well in 90% of all landings. the aircraft will fly around Berlin and you'll have a great view of the whole city. Enjoy!
I know it's only VfB but I like it!

Though I don't like LH, I do love the A300's powerful take off...

The LH A300 is a great plane; nice leather seats, lots of leg room although the flight was short. the sandwiches they serve are good too!
I have only been on the LHR-FRA flight but the seat I had on the right was good for landing in FRA as you see the city of Frankfurt.

We land in the early morning from YYZ on Air Canada, then connect, with a short layover (just over an hour) with the LH flight. Departure is 8:20AM I think, or there abouts, so it'll be early in the morning.

Sounds like it'll be fun, I'll try to get an 'A' seat for that aproach into Berlin. Thanks for all your comments everyone.

By the way: In most cases the approach into FRA is from the east which means you have the city and the airport on the right when you land with Air Canada. You'll also see the big cargo area at FRA. On the left hand side you can see the US Rhein Main Air Base. Sometimes they have some impressive cargo planes there. Enjoy!

P.s.: Unfortunately they don't have sandwiches anymore, you would have to fly in Business-Class. The newspaper-selection is still impressive though. And yes, they have USA Today even earlier than you would get it in the USA!
Do we get a trip report?

My flight from FRA to MUC was on an A300 2 weeks ago. It wasn't as stable in the air as someone mentioned before. It got about 4 of my friends sick and caused me to not eat for the rest of the day. The interiors were nice though.. I enjoyed the leather seat with more space than normal.. I loved the take-off though... but I enjoyed every take off on that trip...
I saw the US Airbase and there were about 9 or 10 cargo planes of different kinds.. very cool

Never flown LH but did fly AA LHR-JFK on an A300. AS others here have stated...great take-off performance and climb...lots of leg room and nice spacious cabin.

I'm envious!  Pissed

I'll try to do a trip report covering all of the flights in one. I'll be pretty busy with work when I return, but I'll try and find time to work on one.

hey, yeah I can only repeat what everyone else said. I took an A300 last month from TXL to FRA, and then one from FRA to LHR. Was very good IMO.
If you sit on the right side, you get a good view of Frankfurt and the airport when landing.

Grey leather seats, reasonable service, and it was my first time on an A300, so was surprised that no flaps were used on takeoff, but it didn't need them as the climb was very impressive.
You'll enjoy it!

@ATB2 :The unstable flying over germany 2 weeks ago was probably not a fault of the A300, but rather owed to the fact that we had severe storms in Germany during that time if I remember right. So I think even a 747 would not have behaved like it should in such weather conditions...

Best regards,

Tom

If you enter at the front door you should definitely ask the captain for a jumpseat, although it's not allowed anymore for non-employees, he can and might make an exception. It's awesome!
It least try to get a look into the cockpit after landing in TXL.
Enjoy your Airbus-experience!
