Fri Mar 29, 2002 1:56 am

Didn't the residents of those neighborhoods notice that a major airport was close by and there JUST MIGHT BE JET NOISE!

This kind of crap really sets me off. Just like a bunch of other airports around, these people buy a house a bit cheaper than normal, then bitch about the noise.

Any judge worth his salt should throw any suits out just based on common sense.

One more example of the NIMBY's and the dumbing down of our society.

In this article in yesterday's AZ Republic...
http://www.arizonarepublic.com/news/articles/0327airtraffic27.html

...our intelligent friend Huey actually recommended moving the airport!!!

..."Sky Harbor critic and Tempe Councilman Hugh Hallman argues that it's time to move the airport if the air traffic controllers cannot follow a procedure that was deemed safe after much study."

He must be Tempe's "special" councilman.

Believe me, most people in Tempe city government qualify for "short bus" ridership.  Big grin

But move it where??

Not with the money already invested into PHX by both HP and WN.

Besides, the USAF will put up an ugly fight if they want Luke AFB turned into a commercial airport, given Luke AFB is one of the largest F-15/F-16 bases in the USA.

RayChuang,
That was your 2500th post!
Congratulations!

Williams-Gateway is a possibility for SOME traffic (until Mesa and Gilbert complain), but certainly not a substitute for Sky Harbor.

It would be cheaper to relocate North Tempe residents to, say, Florence, then bulldoze the whole place!!

We get this type of thing in Florida too. Any noise level above that of a flatulating housefly sets off the bluehairs and geriatrics.

What's even more frustrating in attempting to see their point is the low noise level of the latest jet engines..ESPECIALLY on approach, when more often than not engines are at lower power settings.

Tan flr hit the nail on the head. They didnt think about this when they bought their homes from the shameless developers who built there?

Here in Florida the ultimate eye rolls come when you see new million dollar homes going up.... on barrier islands. Wanna take a guess at how few seconds will pass after a Category 5 hurricane shreds these houses before the homeowners go whining to FEMA to reimburse them?

I've had it with this type of whining by airport neighbors.

How's about this -- for each commercial airport in the United States, establish the exact date when jet service began. Then, add one year to that date.

Anybody who purchased a home after that date is not allowed to complain about jet noise to anybody except perhaps the realtor who sold them the property.

Any members of Congress out there who would be willing to introduce a bill to that effect?

UAL brat,

That could be added to my proposed Common Sense Ammendment to the Constitution.
The lawyers would never allow it since the lack of common sense is their golden egg laying goose, but under this Ammendment, citizens would be assumed to understand that coffee is hot and may burn you, any product that you purchase could, in theory, cause harm to you, there in no situation in which a human is perfectly safe, life can be risky, you are not entitled to millions if your feelings get hurt, smoking may cause you to die of cancer, it's your own fault, a person's Miranda Rights are assumed to be understood, etc, etc, etc. Just some basic assumption of common sense.
Think of the billions of dollars saved and new innovations possible if the innovators were not worried about a shyster lawyer suing them.

The FAA getting rid of a risky noise-abatement approach?? Could they actually have learned something from the Crossair crash last Nov. in Zurich? Nah... the FAA never learns common sense- kinda like our friend Huey.
